What you’ll be doing...

The System Assurance Engineer (Switch Technician)is responsible for the operation of a Mobile Telephone Switch Office (MTSO) and remote support of other Verizon markets. Responsibilities include installation, maintenance, H/W and S/W upgrades, troubleshooting equipment associated with the Ericsson/Nortel core, Motorola CDMA RAN and Nokia-ALU LTE platform. They will maintain associated peripheral equipment including Tellabs DACs, ALU Lambda, Fujitsu 9500, ALU 7705 & 7750 routers along with various Cisco system routers.Other duties include testing, turn up, troubleshooting of transmission facilities (10Gb,OC19, DS3 ), working with Ethernet backhaul and dark fiber facilities. The switch technician will work with fiber optics including cleaning, scoping and installations. The switch tech will open trouble tickets and outage bridges with telecom and vendor support. They will support cell site activities including new cell site activations, carrier augmentations and router configuration builds. They will be responsible for performing inventory duties and working with the vendors to return faulty equipment cards and requesting replacements.

The Switch Technician is responsible for learning and staying up to date with new technologies. They are expected to perform his/her duties with minimum supervision, and be able to multi-task projects and meet tight deadlines. The switch technician is responsible for being on-call periodically and covering for other switch technician’s time off. They will work various schedules based on the need of the network including overnight shifts. The switch technician updates daily logs with site-specific information and composes clear and concise reports for system documentation.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience
  • Two or more years of relevant work experience
  • A valid Driver’s license
  • Ability to lift 50lbs

Even better if you have:

  • Technical degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Military experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer systems and LAN/WAN protocols.
  • A CCNA or related Cisco certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge of LTE and VoLTE call flows.
  • General knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment including JDSU 8000.
  • Knowledge of fiber optics, cleaning, scoping and turn up.
  • Knowledge of Nokia-ALU 7750 and 7705.
  • Knowledge of Fujitsu 9500.
  • Knowledge of ALU Lambda Unite.
  • Knowledge of Ericsson/Nortel switch.
  • Knowledge of Motorola CMDA/EVDO RAN.
  • Knowledge of Tellabs 5500 DAC.
  • Knowledge of Cisco and Juniper routers.
  • Experience and knowledge of transmission facilities (10G, OC48, T3, T1, and DSO) and Ethernet backhaul.
  • Strong programming (UNIX, Python) and computer skills with emphasis on applications are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office.

In addition:

The switch technician should be able to travel out of the market and out of the state when necessary for training. They need to be able to work a flexible schedule including overnight.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills required. Thorough understanding of wireless concepts/theory andtelecommunications network principles, as well as wireless industry standards.

Strong leadership and organizational skills and the ability to develop, manage and track execution of multiple projects simultaneously.

The person should have demonstrated a positive, proactive leadership role in their past including taking the initiative to identify matters of importance; resolving problems in a timely fashion; fostering a sense of teamwork with their colleagues and the manager.
