What you’ll be doing...
Network Implementation & Maintenance Engineer (DCIM)
In this role, you will ensure the availability, stability and integrity of in-service network equipment in a zero-fault tolerant environment. You will be responsible for implementation, de-installation and Layer 1 configuration changes of network equipment and associated cabling connections. Coordination with other department and groups for the graceful shutdown of network elements, data communications and peripheral equipment while maintaining network integrity and quality of all systems still active supporting customer traffic. Additionally, you will support implementation and changes to physical network infrastructure. Restore the Data Center environment back to pre-installation condition by removal of associated network infrastructure cabling, and coordinating deactivation of transmission facilities. Network equipment includes Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, F5 and A10, Dell, HP routers, ALU, Ericsson multilayer switches, load balancers, firewalls.
- This position requires availability to work 3rd shift (nights, Sunday to Thursday) for multiple successive weeks and being on on-call for set periods.
- Understand the overall project technical requirements and translate them to network equipment removal, install, power-up and cabling requirements and deliverables.
- Support troubleshooting fiber optic networks and configuration issues associated with network equipment copper and fiber cabling, device issues and faulty blade or power issues.
- Provide regular status reports, attends and participates in coordination and planning meetings as needed.
- Provide proper and timely documentation of all work activity in the ticketing systems updating work order systems with regular work status and completions.
- Maintain daily logs with job specific information, and compose clear, concise reports for documentation.
- Produce weekly report of project summary with completion status.
- Read, understand, and execute methods of procedures (MOPs) and ensure technical standards are adhered to and no adverse effects will be caused in the network.
- Utilize network monitoring tools for troubleshooting, administering, monitoring during maintenance window to ensure that all network equipment is functioning in accordance with company standards and policies, before, during, and after changes are made.
- Work with multiple internal and external groups to manage and coordinate work. Engage with vendors, system administrators, and network personnel to resolve issues.
- Work effectively both as an individual and as a team member to create successful solutions. Participate in on-call rotation. Perform late night/early morning system changes. Work in fast paced and highly visible environment.
- Willingness to work nights regularly and periodic rotation to day shifts for multiple weeks on either day or night.
- Responsible for removal or installation and cabling of network equipment that includes routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers for a large advance communications technology provider.
- Responsible for support, administration, and maintenance of transport solutions of complex network Layer 1 fabrics and serving as the initial contact point for related Layer 1 network trouble investigation.
- Provide pre- & post- production implementation support for bare metal and virtual networks.
- Collaborate with teams which will include design, engineering, operations, applications owners, and project management to ensure agile and efficient network changes while being mindful of stakeholder impact and network reliability.
- Responsible for participating in network calls and working with technical teams to address technical related issues.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
- Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
- Three or more years of relevant work experience.
- Willingness to travel upto approximately 25% of the time.
- A valid drivers license.
Even Better if you have:
- A degree.
- Certifications such as CCENT, CCNA or CCNP.
- Experience on installation and troubleshooting of network transport, transmission and layer 1 network devices, including DACS and DCS panels and cross connects.
- Experience of optical transmission equipment administration and maintenance.
- Knowledge with Protocol Analysis, Packet Capture, Wireshark, NetScout, Fluke, T-Berd and other fiber test tools.
- Technical and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot end-to-end systems.
- Ability to thrive in dynamic environment and handle challenging situations that come from balancing multiple deadlines, escalations, follow-ups from peers, and troubleshooting major issues.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Capability to be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently.
- Three or more years of networking experience in a cellular or telecommunications environment.
- Knowledge of Layer 1 to 3 network technologies & associated troubleshooting.
- Experience in installing and cabling routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Experience with network troubleshooting tools.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects effectively.
- Communications skills and ability to deliver results in a fast pace environment.
- One or more years of experience in a NOC or NCC environment.
- BSCSI Data Center certifications.
