Your role:

Want to fuel the fire of Verizon Location Services engines? We’re looking for people to help us. We need people who love technology, especially the ‘under the cover’ stuff. Someone who can bring complex ideas and energy to a team, takes some risks, and challenges our thinking.

We need engineers that are flexible and have seen languages and frameworks come and go in popularity, but understand the patterns behind good architecture. Most of all, flexibility. You could be working with Node.js one sprint, building a proof of concept in Elixir with Phoenix the next, building visualizations with React.js another sprint, all according to the needs of the team and your interests.

  • Owns the design and development of significant components or modules and contributes to reviews of other components within the overall architecture.
  • Routinely delivers working software solutions that meet user story acceptance criteria.
  • Practices agile development methods and exemplifies core agile values of transparency, collaboration, embracing change and iterative development.
  • Demonstrates a working understanding of architecture within their core area of expertise.
  • Exemplifies core engineering best practices (design patterns, standard coding practices, etc.)
  • Comfortable, positive, and adaptable given ambiguous requirements.
  • Create verification tests and repair defects.
  • Demonstrates desire and ability to keep current with emerging technology trends and research.
  • Coaches the team in adopting relevant technologies and processes to build an ethos of craftsmanship within the team.
  • Create verification tests and repair defects.

Software Development Culture & Quality:

  • Agile development process.
  • Pull-request code review and paired programming.
  • Branching model and source control workflow with Git.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology or four or more years of work experience
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Experience in Computer Science fundamentals – object oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, complexity analysis, and problem solving.
  • Experience with building APIs in languages such as Node.js, Rails, or Java.
  • Experience with database technology, both relational and non-relational.
  • Experience with build server platform such as Jenkins.
  • Experience with front end JavaScript frameworks, such as React.js
  • Knowledge of functional programming languages
