What you’ll be doing...

The Network and Technology Spend Strategy & Analytics team is hiring a strategic thinker to join a high profile, high visibility team that powers Network analytics and strategic thinking for Verizon. You will be part of a team that builds tools, analysis, and insights that informs, quantifies, and enables the visualization of data to drive business decisions and investment for the Verizon Wireless and Wireline Networks.

We create actionable operational and strategic insights and visualizations for senior leaders in the company across multiple organizations. You will be part of the team that shapes multi-billion dollar investments for the nation’s largest Network. We are looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to design and implement reporting and analytical solutions, including both the design of table structures and the processes used to populate those structures with data from internal and external sources. The information managed by this individual will help business teams drive improvement in key business metrics, customer experience and business results. The BI Engineer will also interact with various development teams, project managers, internal customers and senior management. A successful candidate in this role understands how data is turned into information and knowledge and how the knowledge supports and enables efficient capital allocation for Verizon’s networks.

For this role, you should know how to analyze system requirements and implement migration methods for existing scattered data. Hands-on experience with SQL and Oracle is also required. Ideally, you are familiar with predictive analysis and data visualization techniques using relevant tools (e.g. Tableau, R or Python) as well as experience with different databases (Data Warehouse/Teradata, Hadoop/Hive, AWS). You will also create and support models that predict operational resource requirements based on multi-year deployment plans. The model will provide and integrated, end-to-end view of resources required to build and maintain the wireline and wireless network


  • Contribute to the GN&T True North Plan, Verizon’s comprehensive network strategy
  • Contribute in the design and development of predictive analytical models
  • Contribute in the development of optimization algorithms based on theoretical economic fundamentals
  • Play a central role in the technical architecture, development and delivery of data products and features that would be used by Wireless and Wireline Network engineers
  • Create high-quality data products working closely with data scientists, data architects, Network engineers, RF planners and IT teams.
  • Build efficient and reusable data systems and abstractions
  • Find and address database performance issues
  • Participate in data table and dataset design, engineering and code reviews
  • Identify and communicate data engineering best practices

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience,
  • Experience working with both structured and unstructured datasets in high-volume, high-velocity production environments.
  • Experience working with large databases
  • Experience working with SQL and NoSQL variants.
  • Experience with different databases (Data Warehouse/Teradata, Hadoop/Hive, AWS)
  • Experience with predictive analysis and data visualization techniques using relevant tools (e.g. Tableau, R or Python)

Even better if you have:

  • Degree in Computer Science or Business Analytics or Applied Economics or related field.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to effectively communicate across all leadership levels
  • Ability to lead large cross functional teams
  • Strong Computer Science fundamentals, concurrent programming, and data structures.
  • Solid understanding of the full development lifecycle, developing detailed technical designs, and implementation.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics or a related field preferred
  • Understanding of large scale telecomm networks
  • Proficiency in the design and development of distributed systems
  • Proficiency of experience working with SQL
  • Strong experience with Big Data (working on TB to PB scale datasets)
  • Dataset experience in document, graph, log data, and semi-structured data
  • Strength in Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Data Mining, Pattern Recognition, Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, or Search Ranking
