What you’ll be doing...

System Assurance Engineer is responsible for advanced integration, operation and maintenance (OA&M), and performance monitoring of the Verizon Wireless networks and platforms found within a distribution node. Networks supported include 1X-Voice and Data, CDMA/EVDO, LTE-EPC, EBH, TRFO/NNI, WDN, WVN and LAN/WAN technologies and protocols. Vendor platforms included but are not limited to: Nokia 7750/7705s; Ericsson MME, SGW & eNB; Cisco CRS, PGW, Fujitsu 9500, Telabs DACS. The engineer is expected to perform duties with minimum supervision and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled. Some of the responsibilities include:

  • Perform tasks independently and participate in cross-functional projects.
  • Oversee upgrades, improvements, testing and troubleshooting on voice and data network platforms.
  • Coordinate upgrades, improvements, optimization, testing, and troubleshooting of transmission facilities (fiber, Ethernet, OCn, T3, T1, and DSO).
  • Ensure system applications are at their peak performance.
  • Provide optimal customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Provide network support to a varied user community in multiple time zones.
  • Update daily logs with site-specific information.
  • Compose clear and concise reports for system documentation.
  • Become expert in wireless voice and data system applications, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
  • Work effectively with others, as an individual contributor, in a team environment.
  • Must be able to work and train comfortably in virtual environments (by phone, online, and video).
  • Occasional work in field working on our ground based cell site equipment may be required as well.
  • This position requires on-call rotation, rotational night shift work (overnight) and weekends as necessary.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience
  • Ability to lift 50lbs

Even better if you have:

  • Technical degree; Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other related discipline.
  • Proactive work style to set priorities, work with minimum supervision with a diverse group of professionals.
  • Ability to independently identify issues, provide timely, creative solutions, and own issues through to resolution.
  • Four or more years in the cellular/ telecommunications on data networks and transport with TCP/IP, LAN/WAN and IP routing protocols BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Ethernet, SONET.
  • CCNA or Nokia Certifications.
  • Strong understanding/knowledge of LTE technologies, IP networking and VoLTE.
  • Strong understanding of call processing (originations, handoffs) and data networking (switching/routing, TCP/IP).
  • Strong knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment.
  • Understanding of IP networking including routing protocols and router interface and configuration
  • Strong knowledge of transmission facilities (dark and lit fiber services, Ethernet, OCn, T3, T1, and DSO).
  • Strong knowledge of routers and firewalls. Training or experience in the following areas: data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, and networking or router support.
  • Working knowledge of DC power rectification and battery systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the following technologies and/or platforms: voice cells infrastructure experience including: Lucent, Motorola, Nortel; LTE / CDMA data; telecom experience including: Ethernet backhaul, fiber optic testing / configuration, computer support experience including: PC hardware and configurations, troubleshooting; and power experience and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Dark Fiber and CRAN concepts and Operations
  • Knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, network segmentation (VLAN).
  • Experience in UNIX/Linux.
  • Experience in Openstack, NFV, SDN, and Orchestration technologies.
