You will be responsible for building and maintaining America’s largest and most reliable cellular network. As a Project Manager in Wireless Construction, you will manage a variety of internal and external partners and vendors to oversee construction and maintenance for a regional network of cell site projects. Your vital role will ensure that these multi-stakeholder, complex projects are delivered on time, to specifications, and within budget.

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to establish project designs, scope, deliverables and timelines.
  • Developing and maintaining detailed schedules for each project and actively managing the scheduled tasks with outside vendors including major milestones, action items, long lead purchases, and any other commitments that would impact the project schedule.
  • Analyzing implications of changes from the original schedule and taking required corrective actions to ensure the project stays on track.
  • Providing regular project status reports to management and the project team.
  • Coordinating and overseeing the issuance of RFQs and the evaluation of responses, based on purchasing requirements, and providing detailed analysis and recommendations for the best candidates.
  • This position is a Construction Engineer project management job on the Cell Implementation Macro & Modification team, which is highly demanding, fast-paced, stressful, and requires exceptional time management and communications skills. 80% of work is in an office environment and 20% of work requires travel and outside work. Most outside work is at outdoor cell sites throughout FL.
  • Provides project management and supervision of construction activities for multiple Network site additions and upgrade projects including: New Build sites; Relocation sites; AWS adds; LTE over PCS; LTE over 850 MHZ; RRH installs; RET installs; hybrid cable installs; antenna modifications; LAA/CBRS adds; 5G adds; CDMA adds; sectorization; generator upgrades; generator adds; power upgrades; various equipment swaps at cell sites; and other projects.
  • Provide complete ownership of project financials, from initial proposal/bid through receipt of final product or service including project budget funding, adherence to budget spending, creation & tracking of purchase orders, and inspecting work performed by contractors.
  • Provide accurate, timely, and concise communications; express and explain issues clearly; update project trackers daily; email and call project members frequently.
  • Provide clear direction and supervision to contractors, vendors, and/or other teams supporting upgrade projects.
  • Manage RFQ/RFP and contract processes via bid tools, awarding project, monitoring progress, providing regular status updates, and resolving issues.
  • Provide guidance for site surveys to ensure cell site upgrade projects account for civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical feasibility.
  • Review site survey reports with a focus on measurements, power readings, HVAC assessments, photos, drawings, issues, and recommendations for upgrade projects.
  • Review punch walk/acceptance check lists to ensure construction issues are identified and corrected.
  • Verify testing parameters to include voltage, sweeps, PIM, and other tests supporting cell upgrade projects.
  • Evaluates new products, services, and vendors. Weigh the pros and cons, including impact to the system, costs, compatibility, and ease of use, and reliability.
  • Interfaces with internal and external departments to include Real Estate, Regulatory, and municipal agencies in the pursuit of construction and in-service approvals, building permits, and construction inspections.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience managing projects and process/ program management experience.
  • Experience with budget tracking, cost estimation, and cost accounting of capital plans.
  • A Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel upto approximately 25% of the time.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Ericsson/Nokia, DC plant design, and general construction knowledge.
  • Knowledge of fiber installation and standards.
  • Experience in telecommunications / data networking or wireless industry.
  • Self-starter with ability to thrive while under intense pressure to deliver projects on time, with zero defects, and within budget.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, competing priorities, and situations in which guidelines can change.
  • Ability to learn new processes and technologies quickly; retain new info; and eager to do own research (on and off the job) in finding info and answers.
  • Abilityto adapt communication style to setting and investigate/implement alternate approaches to resolve difficult problems with minimum management input.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to answer phone calls whenever crews are on site supporting your projects; respond to emails promptly; and actively lead and participate in project/team meetings.
  • Knowledge of Alcatel-Lucent CDMA base stations; Ericsson LTE/AWS base stations; Ericsson Remote Radio Units; JMA and Commscope Remote Electrical Tilt Antennas, hybrid cables, and CPRI mux/patch panels.
  • Knowledge of project management, budgeting process, Sarbanes-Oxley, and inventory controls.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, National Electrical Code requirements, environmental requirements including hazardous material, spill prevention, and other regulatory guidelines, general building maintenance, and vendor maintenance.
  • Knowledge of site power plants to include: DC power systems, AC UPS systems, emergency generators, and corresponding distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of cell site design/engineering, construction, real estate, regulatory, and operations.
  • Experience in computer applications: Google Gmail, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Problem solving skills. Strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills.
