What you’ll be doing...

When there are network outages or service issues, you’ll be there to triage the situation, solve the problem or find higher level technical support you can. You will support core systems such as the Global VoIP, TDM and Global SS7 switching networks. Your role providing Tier 1 support and network surveillance will keep things running smoothly and change the way that our customers live, work, and play.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring switch and data network elements and responding to network alarms and events.
  • Performing initial trouble triage and resolving and/or escalating issues.
  • Perform detailed equipment engineering for network augments. This includes developing all of the specifications required for installation forces to properly install, turn-up, inventory, and configure the equipment, obtaining appropriate management approvals, issuing purchase orders, creating applicable diagrams/ drawings, and ensuring vendor delivery.
  • Ensure that work meets all applicable engineering, financial, planning, and operational standards.
  • Develop Bill of Material and place orders for network equipment, rack, and hardware requirements.
  • Define cable requirements, create cable running lists, and order all cables.
  • Order all spares required based on sparing plan or directed by capacity management.
  • Manage, input, and update central Network Inventory Database (i.e. ICON, Nautilus, CoFEE) to reflect new builds, adds, and decommissions.

Experience navigating and working well at all levels in a fast-paced, ever-changing network environment. You are dependable and enjoy the flexibility necessary to support the rotational needs of a technical support environment.

You’ll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and on call for some weekends as necessary.

Even better if you have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, networking, computer, telecommunications or relevant field.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications equipment and technologies like Telephony Switching, Data Communications and Network Routers.
  • Experience in Engineering and/or Installation and Testing in one (or more) of the following Transport technologies: Ciena, Nortel, Fujitsu, Cisco, Alcatel-Lucent SONET and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) equipment platforms.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suites and drawing complex system diagrams using CAD-based software is preferred.
  • Former Verizon Inside Plant Engineers with ICON experience would be a plus.
  • Five or more years of progressive technical experience.
  • Ability to work well with a team and individually (on your own projects) with a positive attitude.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Project Management skills, and the ability to work on several projects at a given time, would be a plus.
