What you’ll be doing...

The Senior Oracle DBA is responsible for the day-to-day database management of Verizon’s MSS infrastructure. This infrastructure is used 24x7 to monitor and manage the cyber security of our customers. You will join a DBA team that stays on top of recent database administration developments. In this role, you will interact on a daily basis with other departments like development and the operational team.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides technical and functional support for system monitoring, system installation, system configuration, system administration, troubleshooting techniques, performance tuning and application system updates.
  • Works as a team member with senior technical staff on large, complex technical projects.
  • Completes assigned technical projects on time (e.g., analysis, designing, development, implementation, testing, monitoring, maintenance, production support, documentation, etc.).
  • Leads staff members and peers on projects. Performing project management activities such as planning, sizing, configuration, and scheduling.
  • Analyzes problems, develops and implements solutions.
  • Leads other Technical Support/Support team members in selected project activities. Acts as a subject matter expert while providing coaching and mentoring to more junior Technical Analysts.
  • Resolves escalated complex issues within the established timeframes while providing quality customer service.
  • Proactively monitors and controls all directives to ensure quality and efficiency.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Eligibility to obtain and maintain a government issued security clearance.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as well as part of a 24x7 on-call rotation.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in a Computer Science / MIS field.
  • Oracle DBA administration and/or programming experience.
  • Knowledge of Oracle 11g/12c.
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux.
  • Experience with SQL and PL/SQL.
  • Experience with Unix shell scripting.
  • Oracle Certified Professional preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Streams.
  • Enterprise storage experience like NetApp.
  • Experience with Oracle Enterprise Grid Control 12c.
  • Ability to follow strict procedures and be disciplined in installation, documentation, event handling, and change control.
  • Ability to adapt to changing goals based on customer demands and market conditions.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and have excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external users and customers.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
