What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative IT manager to join the Network Systems organization. You’ll be managing business operations for the organization, driving a product development mindset throughout the organization and crafting internal/external communications. You will lead a high performing team with a diverse set of skills; varying degrees of technical acumen, project management capabilities and experience with business operations processes within Verizon. Through your leadership and collaboration, you will drive strategies to improve the efficiency of the organization.

Responsibilities to manage business operations of the NetworkSystems organization

  • Drive SDLC with Agile Methodology with full impentation of DevSecOps
  • Drive Platforms with product mindset and cloud deployment
  • Work with the organization’s people leaders, HR, DMO team, CIO Governance team, Field Glass team and TAPFIN to manage onshore / offshore staffing needs.
  • Define and track the organization performance agreement and corresponding scorecard for KPIs.
  • Track security commitments and facilitate their progress.
  • Track budget and spend.
  • Assist teams with VZTime project codes, time charging, track time charging against projects, capital/expense, etc.

Responsibilities to drive product development thinking

  • Manage an incubation team to try new ideas implementing leading technology.
  • Craft the organization’s direction and facilitate its progress to align with the standard operating environment, modernization of application architecture, increase automation within the DevOps CI/CD pipeline.
  • Define and propagate software development best practices and code reusability.
  • Drive agile development mindset and interface with the transformation team to align with Network Systems objectives.

Responsibilities for internal/external communication

  • Craft concise, effective executive level communications.
  • Collaborate with software delivery leaders to summarize accomplishments each week for SVP and above review.
  • Develop write-ups for industry and platform recognition.

Personnel and Team Development via recruiting and retaining talent, and fostering high-performing teams, include:

  • Attracting and retaining proficient individuals.
  • Establishing the mission and purpose for individuals and teams.
  • Perform career counseling and personal development.
  • Listening to and supporting teams for problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision-making.
  • Defining and administering compensation, benefits, and promotions.
  • Taking subtle control in assigning people to teams; addressing issues that teams cannot unblock; making personnel changes where necessary.
  • Evaluating performance, including team input.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in computer science or related field.
  • Experience with delivering solutions by collaborating across multiple teams and managing by influence.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills that can be applied in a variety of contexts.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and execute on competing tasks for multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development life cycle and SAFe for lean enterprises.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools; Git/Stash, Jira, Jenkins, Blue Ocean and Hygieia.
  • Experience with Google G-suite tools and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to effectively communicate to all levels of management.
  • Strong skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
  • Applicable knowledge of IT and network technologies used by the team.
