What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, Cloud Architect to work in our Systems Operations team. We are looking for a senior-level cloud architect to lead the refinement of our operational practices. The candidate should bring extensive experience from a public or private cloud environment. The architect will work with our peer teams in the Network organizations to support and provide guidance to our virtualized network function teams as they are strategically moved to our private cloud. The candidate will also lead deep-dives into technical issues, providing solutions and remediation plans for System Operations team. The architect’s projects will result in a frame work for agile, automated operations solutions that increase our operational excellence.

The day to day:

  • Architects will be points of escalation for the Cloud Systems Operations Team. They are the final point of technical escalation.
  • Architects will interface with peer teams to provide direction and shape operational practices.
  • Architects will collaborate with tenant application teams, working to understand application call flow and cloud requirements.
  • Architects will be responsible for leading the Operations team automation initiatives and strategies
  • Architects must engage in the open source communities participating in upstream collaborations that relate to our cloud operations practice
  • Architects should build automated solutions framework that allow the Systems Operations team to make consistent changes to the cloud platform.
  • Architects will propose the most optimum technical solutions in order to drive industry "best in class" KPI results and state of the art customer experiences
  • Architects will provide direction and guidance on solution designs and work closely with the development and implementation teams for solution delivery
  • Architects will collaborate with product and project managers, other architects and developers to define architectural standards, define deliverables and project estimates

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. (Relevant work experience may be considered)
  • Ten or more years of experience in related technology fields
  • Seven or more years experience in Linux engineering and architecture (RHCE or equivalent proficiencies)
  • Seven or more years experience in network engineering and architecture (CCIE or equivalent proficiencies)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Technical writing proficiency
  • To be successful a candidate should show a strong familiarity with the following:
  • Experience working modern configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible)
  • Experience with distributed storage solutions (iSCSl, Ceph, Swift, other)
  • Experienced Linux systems administration (prefer in Virtualized environment)
  • Experience with networking concepts and protocols (include SDN, NFV)
  • Experience with network design and implementation practices in an enterprise environment.
  • Deploying and supporting various distributions of Open Stack(RedHat, Canonical)
  • Software design/engineering and strong scripting skills (e.g. Python, Shell, Ruby, Perl, other)
  • Contributions to open-source projects
  • Membership and extensive interaction with the Open Stack community and active participation in the core projects.
  • Technical writing for enterprise-level environments
