What you’ll be doing...

The Business Excellence team is responsible for the delivery of $10B waste elimination directive from the Verizon executive leadership team. The organization is responsible for the implementation of Zero Based Budgeting (ZBB) across the enterprise. This strategic program will require individuals with strong business acumen, analytic and communication skills. It will require working with senior executives across Verizon to develop and manage large programs to achieve the $10B goal and ensure sustainability of the reductions.

The Manager will be responsible for supporting the build and execution of spend reduction initiatives. As a Finance Professional, validation of the quality and timing of the business case supporting the initiatives is a key in delivering on the enterprise wide goal. The individual will work with senior executives and operational teams across Verizon to establish financial goals and identify key performance indicators (KPI) to track success. The role requires the ability to predict execution risk, interpret and evaluate monthly analyses of business trends, KPIs and correlate to any variance to plan of financial results. The analysis will be used to communicate to leaders the areas of risk, opportunities and provide recommendations.

  • This individual will work closely with each team to ensure the success of the program by monitoring and weekly executive level reporting in accordance with the program plan.
  • The position will work closely with Corporate, Business and Transformation FP&A on approach and align to the overall corporate planning process.
  • The Manager shall demonstrate broad knowledge of the various Verizon business units. The manager must possess executive communication skills, and quickly be able to identify and overcome potential program challenges.
  • This position supports the ZBB process during the annual budgeting cycle requiring solid ability to influence and change the status quo.
  • This position will drive initiatives around vendor spend to contribute to the corporate $10B elimination initiatives across the Verizon enterprise working with Sourcing, Supply Chain, IT and Finance Systems teams to understand vendor spend programs and benefits, and ensuring timely delivery. Evaluate business vendor spend across the enterprise to serve as a functional expert to the business client, provide strategic guidance and insights during the reduction process.
  • Gain knowledge of the business functions and how vendor spend drives success of their business and operational issues impacting the success of the program.
  • Identification and communication of potential unintended consequences is needed on an ongoing basis.
  • Works with the Process Excellence and Innovation team to deliver best in class vendor spend processes, tools and related governance across Verizon.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Even better if you have:

  • A Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
  • Experience in the technology and/or telecommunications industry.
  • A professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA).
  • A high degree of analytical capability with the demonstrated ability to structure business case around a high-level strategic vision.
  • Strong strategic skills, with the proven ability to identify and assess key points, implications and recommendations.
  • An advanced knowledge of corporate financial planning, reporting & analysis, and costing/profitability methodologies and processes.
  • In depth knowledge of common business and cost drivers, financial statement analysis, and deep-dive analysis.
  • Knowledge of FASB and SEC requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, tax reporting and accounting practices and International Financial Reporting.
  • Experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
  • Experience in Essbase, Smart View, Hyperion Planning, and Hyperion Strategic Finance.
  • Experience leading large and complex team projects with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborative and influential communication skills to drive agreement/commitment and ensure complete buy-in from Senior Leadership.
  • Knowledge of financial and basic accounting concepts.
  • Ability to apply business acumen across multiple business units and functions.
  • Drive linkage to value/strategic initiatives.
  • Identify and track operational KPIs to ensure the health of the business as reduction initiatives are implemented.
  • Develop process mappings to identify inefficiencies and build sustainable reductions in vendor spend.
