What you’ll be doing...

At 140, Verizon’s in-house agency, you will be part of the energy that’s evolving the brand to become a leading technology player. The Proofreader works to improve and/or ensure the quality of material across all media. The proofreader confirms that all materials adhere to brand guidelines for both design and editorial standards. In addition, the proofreader ensures that materials adhere to applicable, established compliance and regulatory guidelines. Collaborates with teams to ensure quality and timeliness of material. Upon request, may provide copyediting assistance to improve content and readability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reads and provides comment on all advertising and promotional projects to ensure:
    • Accuracy of spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and context.
    • Accuracy of references, web addresses, phone numbers, and other data.
    • Compliance with brand guidelines.
    • Correct usage and presentation of Company and Brand trademarks, and logos.
    • Consistency and accuracy of layout components (spacing, capitalization, etc.).
    • Overall continuity, consistency, clarity and presentation.
    • Proofreads design and copywriting projects in a variety of print and digital mediums.
    • Adheres to departmental standard operating procedures and workflows.
    • Ensures all client, legal and compliance annotations are correctly interpreted and addressed.
    • Provides proofreading sign-off on projects at final release to ensure accuracy.
    • Maintains strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Trains new hires on proofreading procedures and general processes.
  • Creates and updates proofreading best practices and consultation guides.
  • Interacts with account managers to resolve issues, negotiate revisions and verify information whenever necessary.
  • Communicates clearly and promptly with manager and Studio staff.
  • Closely collaborates with designers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Takes responsibility to learn about company business and products to effectively accomplish role.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or one or more years of work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism or related discipline.
  • External or in-house advertising agency experience.
  • Three or more years of professional level proofreading experience.
  • Ability to accurately review complex materials including all graphics, texts, multimedia, web sites and charts with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experiencewith AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style and standard proofreading marks.
  • Project management skills, highly organized with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Operates effectively in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize tasks according to clients’ needs.
  • Excellent eye for design consistency.
  • Team player with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Experience in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong written communication skills.
