What you’ll be doing...

You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day administration of all leaves, with significant focus on FMLA, state/local leaves, and Verizon contractual leaves with unionized employees. Reporting to the FMLA Sr. Manager, this person will provide input into the implementation and administration of our various leaves programs to continue to elevate the employee experience. The Leave of Absence Consultant will work closely with the FMLA Manager on seamless administration of leaves and on implementation of new programs. You will develop effective working relationships with internal/external stakeholders. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying, implementing, addressing, resolving and effectively managing Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and various leave of absence processes and policies.
  • Responding to requests for FMLA data, reviewing data, partnering with the FMLA vendor to deliver data in response to stakeholder requests.
  • Managing FMLA vendor relationship as well as vendor interactions with Verizon employees, stakeholders and business leaders.
  • Applying knowledge and understanding of FMLA regulations to ongoing day-to-day FMLA claim administration.
  • Executing on absence, leave and FMLA related company initiatives.
  • Consulting regularly with stakeholders on escalated issues to minimize company exposure and liability.
  • Researching issues and driving toward quick resolutions in order to minimize absenteeism.
  • Training, educating and supporting HR and company leadership on leave and FMLA related administration processes.
  • Leveraging data to develop and deliver meaningful interventions to improve the employee experience, increase compliance, and support the lines of business in meeting our customer’s needs.
  • Reviewing and suggesting process improvements and regularly partnering independently with different functional groups within the business.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with FMLA and leave of absence claim administration.
  • Strong written and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulations and ability to apply them to administration/compliance of plans, including FMLA, PFL, ERISA, HIPAA, State paid sick and family leaves, and DOL requirements.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to balance good business sense along with relevance to various key factors such as, labor contracts, local practices and federal and state statutes.
  • Strong experience with Excel, HRIS, Data Analytics and PeopleSoft.

Even better if you have:

  • A Master’s degree.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience in leaves and benefits.
  • Experience designing and delivering content.
  • Previous experience with administering leaves for population covered under collective bargaining agreements.
  • Strong vendor management skills.
  • Advanced skills in PowerPoint.
