What you’ll be doing...

You will assist with the Intelligent Edge Network Design and Deployment, bringing the various Verizon affiliate Networks together to maximize efficiency and streamline our business.

  • Configure Firewall, Security, & Switch Aggregation related Network Infrastructure platforms for Production and ensure those platforms integrate seamlessly with our many Monitoring systems.
  • Ensure Performance metrics are reviewed to keep expected service levels and ensure configuration audit & remediation activities proceed to keep configuration deltas minimized.
  • Develop and manage Methods of Procedures for Implementation and provide high tier technical support to the Planning, Maintenance, and peer Engineering teams on security and application related issues.
  • Participate in efforts to provide Security focused designs, solutions, deployment strategies, and technical documentation for the Verizon Networks in our various MSCs and Network Equipment Centers.
  • Develop and test clear and accurate migration path procedures to move customer traffic between embedded and directional architectures.
  • Lead technical discussions and track progress/ responsibility on projects on the above work, while managing both in-team and cross functional milestones between Engineering and external Application teams.
  • Participate in test and validation efforts, to ensure the solutions designed perform as expected under load and during failure or attack scenarios.
  • Use knowledge of advanced Engineering and Design methodologies to develop alternative solutions for traditional Infrastructure deployments.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in engineering or related field.
  • General Advanced Networking experience.
  • Data and Network Security experience.
  • Advanced Routing and Switching experience, including system build from Power cabling, through Layer1-7 config, & up to Production deployment,, followed by Maintenance and Troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of structured network design and the OSI Interconnect Model, especially how it relates to the design and deployment of structured networks.
  • Ability to lead technical sessions, to lead projects that span multiple organizations, and to coordinate technical implementation & troubleshooting discussions.
  • Strong Project Management skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Five or more years of experience in IP addressing and subnetting (IPv4 & IPv6), BGP, VPN Concepts, L3 Routing, L2 Design and Configuration, L1 Copper and Fiber Fundamentals, Design and hands-on build out, Sniffer products and tools, QOS, Firewall and Security concepts, configuration & administration of Routers and Switches.
  • Strong knowledge of data architecture and principles, expert level knowledge in network security (Firewalls, IDP, IDS, Hacking Methods, RSA/SecurID, Security Protocols, Radius), SNMP, Network Management and MIBs.
