What you’ll be doing...

As a key technical leader with the Intelligent Edge Network (iEN) and the Evolved Network Service Edge (eNSE) Network Support Team, you will be responsible for all technical support functions for the Verizon Wireless Edge. This includes both distribution areas (SAP Sites) and core network equipment centers (NEC Sites). Responsibilities include supporting both legacy and new network edge networks and the migrations required to move to the network networks and decommission the legacy networks over time. Examples include the migration of a variety of wireless applications to the eNSE and the migration of existing wireless edge routing functions, such as the Choke Router and the Provider Edge (PE) Router into the new iEN Multiservice Edge Router being placed in all the SAP locations in 2019.

As a technical leader, you will manage a team of technical engineers and perform the following high level network support functions:

  • Resolution of complex network troubles originating from a variety of sources including Network Operations Centers, Regional Operations teams, and Customer Centric Teams such as the NRB
  • Perform network change activities including software upgrades and configuration changes using scripting and automation tools for efficiency
  • Provide regular interaction with Network Planning, Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, Regional Teams and Vendors to ensure operational issues are addressed either upfront during network planning and design stages of a new network/product or as discovered
  • Optimize network performance and reliability by proactively identifying and resolving early stage trends that can lead to eventual service interruptions if not addressed through the use of existing or newly created scripting and automation tools
  • Understanding of firewalls, load balancers, DDoS appliances from multiple vendors. Including control plane, data plane, redundancy, and failover mechanisms.
  • Understanding of the 4G LTE architecture, attach process, IMS, VoLTE, and other application call flows and the transport requirements to support them.
  • Good understanding of troubleshooting TCP/IP connectivity problems. (Including using Wireshark to troubleshoot and isolate issues)
  • Support the connectivity requirements of cloud infrastructures and applications.
  • Able to manage vendor relationships in order to drive progress on long standing issues, improve troubleshooting, send meaningful escalations, obtain needed resources, and decrease reliance on their resources.
  • Use Opensource tools to complete projects and improve processes in place of vendor applications and contracts.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

Even better ifyou have:

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications or related discipline
  • Leadership skills inleading technical teams either directly as a supervisor/manager or indirectly through projects and other activities.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving abilities, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to communicate complex information.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions with peers and executive management
  • Knowledge of IPv4, IPv6, QoS, Multicast, MPLS, IP Routing Protocols like ISIS, OSPF, BGP, L3VPN, L2VPN, and Traffic Engineering concepts.
  • Knowledge of modern router architecture including interworking of control plane and forwarding plane, switch fabric, egress queuing.
  • Knowledge of Network Configuration Models (Openconfig Yang Models, IETF Yang Models).
  • Experience with multiple Software Defined Networking (SDN) controller architectures (OpenDaylight, Open Contrail, Northstar).
  • Experience with Automation using configuration management tools like Puppet, Chef, Ansible or Salt.
  • Experience with Splunk for Proactive monitoring and Analysis using Next Generation telemetry, logging, reporting, dash board development, and continuous delivery technologies.
