What you’ll be doing...

The Equipment Engineer is responsible for engineering, material procurement, and installation of all capacity adds and site improvement projects for embedded base sites. This position requires the individual to manage time schedules, technology and capital to meet network growth needs on time and within budget. Must ensure compliance with all Verizon Wireless standards and practices. Must provide complete equipment specifications for Network projects as defined by network deployment plans. Engineering plan should cover cell hardware, transmission equipment, power equipment, batteries, cables, floor space planning, HVAC, and miscellaneous hardware.

Efficiently manage the budget as it relates to equipment purchasing. This includes processing orders and invoices in a timely manner. Analyze work orders and coordinate with equipment vendors, facilities engineering and radio engineering groups to assure that equipment is configured to meet network requirements. Design, specify, and document special equipment configurations when required by site-specific construction situations.

Work closely with all engineering groups in the Network team including RF Design, Traffic, Real Estate, Construction, Operations, and System Performance. Effectively manage vendors and consultants. Work with vendors to obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, and ensure their products and services meet Verizon Wireless’ requirements. Manage outside vendors and contractors to effectively meet shipping and installation commitments. Ensure departmental compliance with company procurement and equipment installation policies.

What we’re looking for...

Using your PO skills, you will request authorization for funds and write purchase orders using the PeopleSoft Purchasing system and manage procurement and inventory activities with the CATS system and supplemental spreadsheets.

You'll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in of Microsoft Office and Project.
  • Valid Driver’s license.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field.
  • Three or more years of experience in the cellular or telecommunications’ industry.
  • Knowledge of cell RF, electrical and mechanical design, including equipment configuration, TELCO interface, DC power systems, lightning protection and grounding.
  • Excellent team, project management and communications skills.
  • Self-motivated, show initiative, and be able to work independently.
  • Highly productive and detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of databases, Microsoft Office applications, and web based application, and software tool packages.
  • Strong construction background.
