What you’ll be doing...

The Network Systems Service Assurance team is looking for a senior application architect to drive a product development mindset in the organization. As a application architect, you will collaborate with members of several director teams to try new ideas with leading technology to implement solutions. You will have the opportunity to influence and lead software development practices across the organization. Since we are the Service Assurance systems team we hold ourselves accountable to strong operational practices, high availability and resiliency in the products we deliver to ensure the best user experience in maintaining the Verizon network.

  • Lead cross functional incubation teams to try new ideas with leading technology.
  • Develop product prototypes, evaluate the outcome and design their implementation with operational practices in mind.
  • Evaluate application technologies and make recommendations for best uses.
  • Develop solutions that are microservice based, cloud native and secure by design for new or existing applications.
  • Define and propagate software development best practices with code reusability and automation designed into the process.
  • Drive an agile development mindset.
  • Craft the organization’s direction and facilitate its progress to align with the standard operating environment, modernization of application architecture and increase automation within the DevOps CI/CD pipeline.
  • Develop practices that foster the growth of full stack developers within the organization.
  • Develop communications to educate developers with varied experience.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or related fields or fouror more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of experience in designing, developing, building, and implementing software systems in a team environment or relevant work experience.
  • Experience in core Hadoop stack.
  • Object oriented programming knowledge, along with knowledge of algorithms, data structures and design patterns.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • Master's degree.
  • Six or more years of experience in programming in different languages like Java, Node.js, Python, etc.
  • Four or more years of experience in database technologies; relational and non-relational.
  • Communication skills adaptable to varied audiences; inexperienced to experienced developers, software development managers and executives.
  • Experience using front end JavaScript frameworks like React, Angular or similar.
  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining REST APIs for use in production and you have experience working with Open API standards, like Swagger.
  • Experience with big data platforms such as Hadoop and building large scale data processing solutions optimized for speed using technologies such as Spark, Storm and MapReduce.
  • Experience with pub-sub messaging such as Kafka, Pulsar.
  • Experience designing container and microservice based solutions in a cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience building automated CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins or similar tool.
  • Knowledge and experience with structured software development methodologies including design, development and testing in an agile environment.
  • Excellent work ethic and strong sense of ownership of end result.
  • Problem solver and innovative thinker who can lead by influence.
