What you’ll be doing...

  • A Tier 2 engineer will be responsible for a wide range of activities surrounding the on-going maintenance and expert level support of Verizon Managed Services customer networks, primarily Incident and Change Management. These activities will include the troubleshooting and resolution of medium to high complex network issues, complex change management, working with vendors and internal organizations (IT NOC, Engineering, PMO, etc.) on product wide issues as well as product readiness projects. Tier 2 engineers must exhibit excellent customer facing skills and the ability to provide advanced technical engineering support to enterprise clients. A Tier 2 engineer will directly interact with customers on high visibility and complex technical issues, and should possess the ability to communicate technical details and concepts.
  • Tier 2 engineers provide the second layer of support escalation for various internal NOCs that are performing the initial Tier 1 incident management and triage for Managed Network Services customers. Tier 2 engineers support a complex mix of technologies that create the Verizon Managed Services product offerings including Managed WAN (MWAN), Managed LAN (MLAN), Managed Wireless LAN (MWLAN - Aruba and Cisco WLCs and APs), Managed Wan Optimization Services (MWOS - Cisco WAE & NM WAE, Juniper WXC & NM-WXC, and Riverbed Steelhead and Interceptors), Remote Office IP VPN solution with customer, and Secure Cloud Interconnect (SCI), SD-WAN, VNS.
  • In addition to the managed CPE equipment, Tier 2 also provides support for Provider Edge and GW support for customer configuration that includes Cisco 7600, ASR9K, ESR, GSR IOS & IOS-XR devices, and Juniper M320 and MX960 devices.
  • Tier 2 provides the fulfillment function for MNS Standard Change Management requests. These changes are logical changes to Verizon managed customer’s devices. Changes can range from simple ACL or QOS modifications, circuit upgrades, software upgrades, and complex network wide changes in the form of projects

What we’re looking for...

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor degree in IT or the equivalent and have an active certification of either CCNA, CCNP R&S, CCNP SP. Tier 2 engineers should have a strong working knowledge of OSI layers 1-7, with the ability to apply analytical and troubleshooting skill sets to solve complex problems across all networking disciplines. Tier 2 engineers must possess a solid understanding of LAN and WAN concepts (including wireless LAN) plus an average of 3 to 5 years of hands on experience supporting enterprise class routers, switches in a global network environment using common network security practices, standards and troubleshooting. Tier 2 engineers must have excellent communications skills and be able to deliver results under pressure. Tier 2 engineers work directly with our customers, and therefore engineers must have strong customer service skills and the ability to interface successfully with both the customer’s technical and non-technical contacts, Verizon Account teams and various other groups involved in the delivery of service to the end customer. Tier 2 engineers are flexible with work hours, and sometimes may be required to work an off-shift or on-call. Willing to work 24*7 rotational Shifts and flexible hours on week days, weekends and holidays as required.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • The successful candidate should possess:
  • Bachelor degree of Computer Science or IT equivalent
  • Active CCNA certification is a minimum requirement,Active CCNP is an added advantage.
  • A solid understanding of network routing and switching concepts.
  • Good knowledge on BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, and RIP routing protocols, redistribution, and high availability protocols such as HSRP, GLBP, VRRP.
  • Good support experience on MBGP, VRFs, VRF-Lite, and MPLS VPNs
  • Good support experience on AOS, IOS, IOS-XR, and JUNOS products
  • Good knowledge of QOS, MQOS, queuing techniques, policing, shaping, marking etc on Cisco and Juniper platforms
  • Experience supporting IPVPN, DMVPN, EZVPN, and GETVPN designs
  • Experience supporting Aruba and Cisco WLAN Controllers and Access Points
  • Experience supporting Cisco and Riverbed WAN Optimization
  • Candidate must poses strong knowledge & working experience with resolution centric diagnostic approach , ability to quickly identify & isolate the root cause of the issues in minimal time.
  • Ability to multitask in a high visibility environment
  • Solid communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Understanding of ITIL model and experience working in an ITIL environment
  • Troubleshooting skills utilizing Wireshark packet capture/analysis is an added advantage.
  • Experience and knowledge of network monitoring/management technologies (AAA, SNMP, FTP, SCP, telnet, SSH, NTP, Netflow, syslog, monitoring applications, etc.)
  • Goodtechnical writing skills for known issue documentation
