What you’ll be doing...

You'll be in a key role driving impact analysis and resolution. Utilizing your data analytics strategies, strong accounting background, and Verizon programs and systems knowledge, you will identify systems issues and functional gaps. You will have the opportunity to provide guidance and leadership to others. Come help us keep our Finance team running better every day.

  • Accounting: Understanding enterprise accounting flows and financial event sequences. Ability to research complex accounting scenarios. Firm understanding of US GAAP standards.
  • Big Data Analytics: Multi-stage processing of datasets involving billions of records. Understanding of big data analytics environments (data warehouse, Hadoop, etc.) and their limitations. Accurately attest to issues and impact.
  • Project Management: Escalate identified issues, clearly document context, impact, and progress. Own an issue through resolution and work with multiple business teams and track progress and resolution (Accounting, IT, Point of sale, etc.).
  • Information Technology: Ability to identify, proof-of-concept, and employ various technologies towards analytics and accounting review goals. (Python, Shell Scripting, Automation).
  • Performing tasks and project assignments utilizing a combination of systems/IT and accounting skills.
  • Overseeing the completion of complex analytical assignments and preparation of related reports.
  • Supporting leadership with analyzing, and reporting on general ledger transactions, and other related projects.
  • Coordinating with the other finance teams to ensure complete and accurate accruals and simplify processes.
  • Leading the company’s efforts to comply with the requirements of Sarbanes Oxley while ensuring compliance and adherence with controls for internal policies and external regulations.
  • Providing subject matter expertise on application of analytics and accounting principles.
  • Reviewing the work of others and analyze the output for appropriate accounting treatment, completeness and accuracy.
  • Leading reviews for accuracy of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
  • Leading accounting projects to ensure compliance and adherence with controls for internal policies and external regulations.
  • Directing efforts in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems, procedures and policies for the group.

What we’re looking for...

You are organized and practical, and great at finding ways to simplify complex processes. You are comfortable in big data and analytical environments. You have solid accounting knowledge across a variety of topics and the ability to self-direct, manage projects and meet deliverables. Providing guidance and direction to others in an upbeat, positive manner comes naturally to you. Working independently is as comfortable for you as being part of a team.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in the preparation of general ledger postings and account reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of FASB and SEC requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, accounting best practices, and cross functional accounting impacts.
  • Experience with SQL, G-Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, specifically with Excel spreadsheets.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Master's in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or in related field.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems and applications including SAP, PeopleSoft, CPM/Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, Blackline or related systems and applications.
  • Experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
  • Background in Programming or development.
  • Cloud and other analytic environment experience.
  • CPA certification.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Experience in the design and implementation of accounting systems and applications.
  • Understanding of report query and design.
  • Management skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong written and verbal communications skills.
