What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Connect has an immediate need for a Systems Engineer with AWS Cloud deployment experience to join our existing team of Systems Engineers within the Development Operations team. This role will help facilitate the deployment, maintenance and performance tuning of our award winning SaaS application as we migrate from on-premise datacenter infrastructure to an entirely cloud native infrastructure.

  • Designing and implementing Cloud based infrastructure in AWS.
  • Leveraging your experience in the automated deployment of infrastructure and services using Cloud formation in AWS.
  • Utilizing your knowledge of the principles/methodologies and tools used in Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery using Opsworks/Chef.
  • Setting up and maintaining AWS Cloudwatch.
  • Designing and maintaining IAM security policies within AWS.
  • Designing and deploying highly available solutions in AWS using VPC’s and Route53.
  • Automating operational tasks using Windows Powershell.
  • Performing configuration management system based on CHEF, writing cookbooks and recipes.
  • Monitoring performance, troubleshoot systems problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, patching, collaborating with System Engineers & Architects on optimization.
  • Providing on call support for the Development Operations team in an outage situation.
  • Working as part of the team to ensure projects and goals are delivered to aggressive timelines.
  • Performing ongoing maintenance of documentation relating to new and current systems throughout the organization.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience.
  • Two or more years of experience working with Amazon Web Service technologies.
  • Three or more years of experience as Systems Engineer in a Windows/Linux environment.
  • Knowledge and troubleshooting experience on all aspects of the Networking Stack.
  • Experience working in an operating system agnostic infrastructure.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in computer science/engineering or relevant.
  • Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and innovation.
  • Excellent communications skills to clearly articulate complex technical issues to all levels of the organization (both technical and non-technical).
  • Current AWS, Microsoft, RedHat, Cisco CCNA/CCNP and/or relevant certification(s).
  • Working knowledge of both Windows and Linux operating systems.
