What you’ll be doing...

  • Responsible for design and support of Ethernet Backhaul routes and transport equipment for interconnecting cell sites with MSCs as well as inter MSC connectivity.
  • Responsible for engineering SONET/Native Ethernet/CWDM/DWDM networks.
  • Responsible for supporting network projects such as new build programs, hardware conversions, Fiber to Cell/Ethernet Backhaul initiatives, Microwave deployments, and future IP based technologies.
  • Negotiate with LEC, IXC and CAP carriers for timely delivery of front haul and backhaul service. Manage vendor performance to contractual agreements.
  • Responsible for tracking network projects as it pertains to the facilities team such as path diversification, cost reduction initiatives, cell availability evaluations, equipment decommissioning, facility migration, etc.
  • Responsible for Capacity Planning and Monitoring to ensure adequate bandwidth.
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate records are provided via Granite Xng database, SiteTracker, and FUZE SPM.
  • Manage capital and expense budgets related to transport projects.
  • Collaborate with other Network groups, (e.g., Maint Eng, Midwest Area Transport Planning, Network Assurance, etc.).

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in telecommunications with focus on transport network.
  • Experience in Demonstrated knowledge in the following platforms and/or technologies: ALU (7750, 7705, & 1678), Tellabs 5500, Fujitsu FW9500, Cisco ASR 1002 and 9010, and CWDM/DWDM.
  • Networking experience to include Layer-1, Layer-2 & Layer-3 principles.
  • Valid Driver’s license.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in Telecommunications or Engineering.
  • Telecom testing experience including: DS3, SONET, Ethernet (2544), and OTDR.
  • Experience with the Telcordia Granite Inventory (formerly Xpercom/Xng) circuit inventory system.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Fujitsu NetSmart 1500 and ALU 5620 SAM network management systems.
  • Proficient in office computer applications: Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and the Google office Suite.
  • Excellent analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Decision making skills (making appropriate use of available information and data; making sound decisions with minimal support from Manager; and being responsible for specific projects or definable portions of larger projects or processes.)
  • Ability to balance technical and business requirements.
  • Superior organizational and planning skills (setting and communicating priorities; anticipating workload impact on resources of both self and team; delegating where appropriate; consistently following up on outstanding items; and providing focus in meetings and discussions).
  • Ability to maintain performance level under varying degrees of pressure and uncertainty and to effectively deal with situations for which few or no guidelines exist.
