What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Communications is seeking ahighly-motivatedattorneyfor its labor and employment practice group,with a focus on employment counseling and litigation management.


  • Provide counseling on a variety of employment-related matters, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), employment discrimination and harassment claims, discipline and termination matters, reductions-in-force, wage and hour compliance and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Provide expertise in the development, implementation and management of policies relating to the ADA, FMLA, and various state/local disability and leave laws. Deep experience relating to the substance and interplay of FMLA, ADA, and state/local leave laws is required.
  • Supervise outside counsel in the defense of employment-related single plaintiff and class action lawsuits.
  • Advise HR in the investigation of internal EEO complaints.
  • Manage external charges, investigations and audits by administrative agencies, such as the EEOC.
  • Prepare and conduct training programs for HR.

Some experience in traditional labor matters is also required; specifically, the ideal candidate will have experience in providing legal support in connection with labor grievances and arbitrations, contract interpretation handling unfair labor practice charges before the NLRB, and preparing/conducting training programs supporting labor relations. Experience providing legal support in connection with union organizing campaigns and/or collective bargaining a plus.

Some travel may be required.

  • Good academic performance at top tier law school.
  • Member of bar of at least one state.
  • Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills.
  • At least 8 years of experience in labor and employment law with a focus on employment advice and litigation management.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both written and verbal and demonstrated sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information coupled with impeccable integrity and sound judgment.
  • Experience building effective working relationships with clients.
