What you’ll be doing...

The Maintenance Engineer will support VZW MTCE Lab stakeholders and teams by finding outage RCA’s by actively troubleshooting Lab call processing issues for but not limited to RAN, EPC, IMS, VoLTE, and reproducing production issues within the lab. The engineer will actively manage MTCE lab tools such as Irisview, SevOne, Brocade, SANE, and others. The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for the planning, design, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new system hardware and software. The engineer will work with Lab stakeholders to develop and implement Lab environments needed for project and initiatives support. The engineer will lead Lab projects, resolve support & trouble tickets, and drive initiatives to improve Lab uptime and efficiency. You will support MTS-IV lab engineers and assist lab customers on a daily basis. Proactively work with the team to ensure documentation is created/updated, holding training sessions to keep overall knowledge in the team to a high level, handle projects and tickets, providing RCA’s when needed, and always thinking of ways to improve the stability of the lab network for production testing and validation.

  • Create and publish functional and technical requirements by working with Lab stakeholders for new project requests. Such as testing Network TAPs, network tools, and services for production.
  • Understand system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs, call flows, and device-system interactions in order to develop troubleshooting guides to be used by Maintenance Engineering and other Verizon teams.
  • Provide outage resolution oversight and act as the central VZW escalation/support contact for call processing and network tool related issues.
  • Collect, identify, and evaluate data relating to system problems that impact application performance and efficiency.
  • Analyze system failures and develop short- as well as long-term solutions to address each.
  • Responsible for vendor/Internal escalation to reduce MTTR.
  • Work with multiple vendors across many platforms to achieve system stability. In the event that executive leadership needs to be involved Maintenance Engineering management will be brought in as a point of further escalation.
  • Provide administrative management of monitored products. (Irisview, SevOne, RTT, SANE, etc.)
  • Negotiate Service Level Agreements, Statements of Work, and General Purchasing Agreements.
  • Review vendor performance regularly in order to ensure technical compliance with agreements.
  • Minimize the cost of all new capital purchases as well as actively reduce existing vendor expense costs "year over year".

What we’re looking for...

The Wireless Maintenance Engineering Lab Ops Team is looking for a self-motivated and forward-thinking engineer to support the E2E Lab Network (RAN, EPC, IMS, VoLTE, etc). This individual should be a self-starter with a leadership mindset to proactively seek out and solve potential issues before they impact lab customers. We’re looking for an individual that will provide guidance to fellow employees and lab customers on a daily basis ensuring all teams in Maintenance Engineering are well informed and supported quickly in times of need.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience/knowledge in call flow troubleshooting in RAN, EPC, IMS, and VoLTE for services such as 3G, 4G, 5G, OneTalk, VoWiFi, VICE, etc.
  • Experience in protocol analysis to quickly identify granular issues within protocol messages and troubleshoot issues based on response codes seen throughout the network. (TCP/IP, Diameter, SIP, GTP, DNS, RTP, HTTP/S, H.323, MGCP, H.248/Megaco, etc.)
  • Experience with network tools such as IPControl, Irisview, SevOne, nGeniusOne, and SANE.
  • Working experience with UNIX/Linux OS.

  • A degree in engineering, mathematics, or related field.
  • One or more years of vendor management experience.
  • Project management and problem-solving skills.
  • System Administrator experience.
  • Database Administrator experience.
  • Experience/Knowledge of 5G Architecture and Call Flows.
  • Experience with MTAS/Provisioning.
  • Experience building Visio Network diagrams.
  • Working experience with EPC/IMS network applications.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently on routine and non-routine research and reporting functions.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to communicate status, progress, and timelines effectively.
  • Excellent organization/documentation skills, you will be using tools such as Visio, Confluence, PPT.
  • Strong organizational, development, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. You will lead weekly formal/non-formal meetings for the IMS/VoLTE Team, create and instruct training/brown bag sessions, and give professional updates in tickets and projects on a daily/weekly basis.
  • Strong leadership, team building, and interpersonal skills.
