What you’ll be doing...

Facilities Planning Engineer, Network Infrastructure Planning, will be responsible for long term planning related to activities affecting infrastructure and network operation at all Verizon technical facilities. The planning engineer will have understanding of both legacy and next-generation network architecture and equipment and use that knowledge to ensure infrastructure is in place to support network growth and transformation. Network facilities are categorized for Directional or Non-Directional use. Non-Directional sites are identified for decom, capped for network traffic, and organized within the annual decom planning effort. Candidate should have a passion for building relationships and leading cross functional teams and must be able to act as a communication bridge with the ability to engage with stakeholders to understand and respond to business objectives and needs in rapidly changing business environments.


  • Develop plans and communicate the directional facility assignments for all technical facilities and assist other planning organizations with targeted deployment plans and timeline development.
  • Develop and implement plans to vacate non-directional facilities by the appropriate facility closure date. This includes leading cross-functional teams as they work through network decommission plans and problem solving inter-dependency issues that arise between these organizations.
  • Coordinate planning activities with the operational teams including global real estate to address the impact of changes to the facility portfolio.
  • Proactive tracking of Next Gen and legacy equipment planned at Directional sites and communicate with peer organizations to make responsible decisions for capital spending.
  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual capital budget planning, monitoring, and decision making.
  • Regular interaction with Global Real Estate to provide guidance on site disposition (to purchase/sell a site or renew leases for short/long term timelines) and risk analysis for potential landlord forced decoms
  • Regular interaction with contacts from all business units to investigate facility opportunities and implementation activities across the company.
  • Regular participation in planning initiative meetings to refine the facility selection process.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Five or more years of wireline or wireless facility or construction planning.
  • Network knowledge of Verizon’s long haul and metro backbones.
  • Understanding of Verizon back office systems used for circuit provisioning, space and power tracking, and network inventory.
  • Legacy Telecom engineering or planning experience including: DS1, DS3, SONET, Voice Switch, or Data Platforms.
  • Understanding of telecom power and cooling architectures and related facility infrastructure systems.
  • Office computer applications: Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate meetings both in-person and remotely.
  • Excellent decision making skills (making appropriate use of available information and data; making sound decisions with minimal support from Manager; and being responsible for specific projects or definable portions of larger projects or processes.).
  • Balance technical and business requirements while making decisions.
  • Ability to thrive in dynamic work environment and maintain performance level.
  • Experience with providing recommendations to senior management and presenting to executives.
  • Excellent analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Superior organizational and planning skills (setting and communicating priorities; anticipating workload impact on resources of both self and team; delegating where appropriate; consistently following up on outstanding items; and providing focus in meetings and discussions).
  • Flexible and creative (seeks out and attempts alternate solutions to resolve issues, and seamlessly adjusts to a dynamic, changing business environment).
