What you’ll be doing...

You will be part of a highly functional team that successfully manages the completion of goals and objectives in the following environmental, health and safety (EHS) areas:

  • EHS Management system integration, management and continual improvement.
  • Review EHS regulations for applicability to Verizon. Coordinate with other team members/departments in determining impacts to the business and act as representatives with government agencies in EHS matters affecting the company.
  • Develop communications and compliance implementation strategies for new regulations applicable to Verizon.
  • Develop, update and implement EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify EHS improvement projects and participate with cross functional resources to complete projects and mitigate risks to incorporate current/best practices and the latest technologies.
  • Develop and implement an internal communications plan that informs, engages and educates employees about EHS topics, training and programs.
  • Conduct/coordinate facility and program compliance assessments to identify root causes and short/long-term corrective actions as necessary. Ensure corrective actions are completed timely.
  • Lead, initiate, and manage a philosophy of continuous improvement in EHS.
  • Review and respond to EHS related prospective client questionnaires that are part of bids and requests for proposals (RFPSs) being submitted by Verizon’s marketing teams.
  • Manage EHS vendors, expenses, and budget.
  • Support the entire corporate EHS Team in attaining departmental goals and objectives.
  • Act in support of and as a role model for Verizon's goals of safety for everyone; at work, at home and on the road.

What we’re looking for...

We are seeking an energetic self-starter who wants to be a transformative member of a world-class corporate EHS team.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS studies, Engineering, Science or other technical related field.
  • 6 or more years of experience in a related corporate or compliance role.
  • Experience with managing, auditing or implementing EHS or quality management systems (ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and ISO 9001).
  • Professional certification from a nationally recognized board (Certified Safety Professional, Certified Safety Auditor, OSHA 500, or similar certification).
  • In-depth technical knowledge of current EHS regulations.
  • Ability to work independently, and also as part of a team.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and ability to develop positive working relationships.
  • Excellent communication, research and analytical skills.
  • Results driven, detail oriented, able to anticipate needs and issues and identify appropriate solutions.
