What you’ll be doing...

You will be a technical engineering lead for the team supporting Verizon’s core back-end IT network infrastructure, platforms and applications for mission critical Verizon Network employees and teams. You will be responsible for leading in the operation of over 1000 systems and components serving 15,000 end-user devices. This team manages the heart of what is the IT experience for Verizon’s most mission-critical employees, those that operate and manage the Verizon customer network. You will engineer and oversee the management platforms that maintain and monitor all servers and clients in the Verizon Network IT domain including the imaging, software deployment, and updates for our desktops, laptops and internal servers, and help direct the evolution of these platforms used across Verizon into the future.

  • You will be at the forefront in the decisions surrounding desktop and laptop standards choices for teams all across Verizon.
  • Control and manage existing tools and systems.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement new solutions that improve and support the Verizon network employee user experience.
  • Act as a key contributor in the standardization and merger of Verizon IT systems and processes that is occurring in parallel with Verizon’s networks convergence.
  • Lead efforts to automate and consolidate tasks and processes to reduce complexity and costs.
  • Influence how the IT support structure evolves all across Verizon.
  • Mentor other engineers on the team and guide them toward optimal performance results across the IT infrastructure while operating in a constantly changing environment.
  • Take charge of systemic issues and build processes and tools to overcome challenges.

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in Computer Science or Information Systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), Microsoft Development Technology (MDT), and/or Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) and Windows Software Update Services (WSUS).
  • Ability to self-manage projects, including managing deadlines and dependencies.
  • Experience in Google G-Suite or Google Apps (Google Slides, Docs, Sheets) , and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Ability to effectively communicate through presentation, interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work across multiple, diverse teams.
  • Strong technical leadership skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server and OS fundamentals.
  • Experience with enterprise virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, Oracle) or cloud virtualization (AWS, Google, Azure).
  • Experience in Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: Desktop Engineering, Information Security, Software Development.
  • Experiencein Technical Architecture.
  • A current or recent Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate certification, orMCITP certification.
  • A current or recent VMware Certified Professional (VCP) certification in Datacenter Virtualization (DVC) or other relevant area.
  • Experience influencing industry trends and customer sentiment around new technology adoption.
  • Working knowledge of the .NET Framework.
  • Experience with VBScript, Batch Files, and UNIX shell scripting.
  • Experience deploying software and updates to MacOS endpoints.
  • Experience in Multi-discipline knowledge of development, testing, infrastructure, operations, technical architecture, Application Operations, Production Operations, Database, and corporate functions (e.g. security compliance, etc.).
  • Industry-recognized certification in relevant Microsoft, VMWare, or relevanttechnologies.
