What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is seeking a highly motivated, can-do attorney to support its Public Sector product legal team that primarily involve supporting the Verizon Smart Communities (VSC) business segment. The Staff Counsel position will be a key partner in helping our Public Sector and VSC teams develop, evolve and bring to market cutting edge products. You willbe responsible for a wide range of activities: supporting internal product reviews (with a particular focus on security and privacy), assisting in the negotiation of strategic supplier agreements, and providing product SME support for customer-facing proposals and negotiations. You also will have the opportunity to contribute your best ideas to help increase our speed to market for new and evolving Public Sector products.

A successful candidate will be proficient in interpreting and negotiating complex agreements for the licensing and procurement of emerging technology and related services, to interact effectively with senior management, and to exercise sound business and legal judgment. You must be able to work independently and complete tasks with competing priorities. You will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other attorneys, contract managers and other stakeholders in the product development process, including sales / business development, business and technical experts, and finance. Verizon is looking for someone with equal amounts of technical knowledge, legal acumen and people skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide legal guidance and support in the development and launch of new products and services, including the identification of all relevant legal issues.
  • Participate in and counsel clients through all stages of the product lifecycle (design, review, approve, go-to-market and wind down).
  • Ensure compliance of products with all laws, regulations and contractual commitments.
  • Draft and review product terms of service, disclosures, FAQs, technical requirements, customer care and training scripts, and product collateral
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the company to drive product development and commercial launches, and serve as liaison to provide product information to other legal functions (such as Public Policy, Contracts, etc.).
  • Proactively identify and mitigate any areas presenting business or legal risk.
  • Advise Public Sector and VSC leaders on legal matters impacting the business.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Bar membership and needed licenses.
  • Experience working with technology, software, licenses, and/or hardware development.

Even better if you have:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in privacy and/or cybersecurity.
  • Experience in the telecom or wireless industry.
  • Experience working with IoT & artificial intelligence.
  • Experience supporting the sale of products & services to state, local and/or federal customers.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilitieswitha high attention to detail.
  • Ability to spot problems and lead implementation of appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to interact comfortably with all levels of personnel and enforce legal requirements without alienating clients.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite & GSuite.
