What you’ll be doing...

The Interconnect Engineer IV is responsible for providing technical leadership, oversight, and project management for transport network expansion, optimization, and evolution. Projects focus on the design, inventory, and implementation of the transport infrastructure required for provisioning and supporting wireless services and traffic. The candidate will be expected to perform duties with minimum supervision, as an individual contributor and in a team environment, maintaining high levels of integrity.

Network Planning, Implementation, and Management

  • Proactively plan and design network deployments
    • Partner with other planning and engineering teams on strategic initiatives and business objectives
    • Provide technical expertise and insight to develop solutions and feature enhancements that meet current and future network needs
  • Procure, inventory, and install transport facilities and equipment
    • Fiber, Ethernet, SONET, and TDM transport facilities
    • MLS, router/switch (Cisco/Juniper/Nokia), MSPP, DCS, DWDM/CWDM (Ciena, Fujitsu, Nokia, Ericsson), microwave (Aviat, Nokia), and ancillary transport equipment (panels, cables, timing sources, etc.)
    • Coordinate activities to meet established intervals and due dates
    • Support installation troubleshooting, as needed
    • Maintain accurate design and inventory database records
    • Manage workflow tools to create, track, and update tasks to document progress
  • Monitor network performance, capacity, and utilization; proactively augment or optimize for peak performance
    • Ethernet circuit utilization, equipment capacity, PSTN traffic, and trunk group utilization
    • Provide technical insight and support, as needed, to expeditiously resolve service impacting outages

Vendor Coordination and Management

  • Manage end to end bid process
    • Leverage tools and support teams to create bid/RFP events, perform bid analysis and business case development, process award recommendations and approvals, and complete contract negotiation and execution
  • Coordinate and manage vendor/contractor projects and activities (telecommunications and architectural and engineering (A&E) vendors, general contractor (GC), outside plant (OSP) contractor, etc.)
  • Develop and nurture vendor relationships
  • Track manage, and periodically review overall vendor performance, as well as progress of awarded projects

Financial Planning and Management

  • Incorporate forecasts from various sources into network demand analysis to budget for anticipated growth and meet business objectives.
  • Develop and manage annual budget.
  • Create and manage purchase orders with an understanding of budget impacts.
  • Draft business case documents to support proposals and recommendations.

Business Management

  • Exercise sound, fact-based decision making practices
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and interface with executive leadership teams, as needed, to discuss and develop business objectives, and execute plans to meet deliverables
  • Compose clear, concise reports for leadership review

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with fiber optic cables, signal transmission, installation requirements, and testing and troubleshooting practices.
  • Knowledge and experience in CWDM/DWDM Optical Transport systems including: Ciena, Fujitsu, Nokia, Ericsson.
  • Superior organizational and planning skills (setting and communicating priorities; anticipating workload impact on resources of both self and team; delegating where appropriate; consistently following up on outstanding items; and providing focus in meetings and discussions).
  • Experience with at least 3 of the following tools/applications:
    • Granite Inventory (Xng)
    • ASR administration (Manual, QORA, EASE, WISOR, Access Ordering, PCeASR)
    • SiteTraker/SalesForce
    • SevOne
    • Real Time Tool (RTT)
    • BRIX
    • PeopleSoft
    • Mapping/Geo-spacial applications (Google Earth, ArcGIS, MapInfo)
    • Pathloss
    • BillTrakPro
    • Tableau
  • Valid Driver’s license.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Five or more years of experience in the cellular/telecommunications industry in a transport engineering role.
  • Positive, productive demeanor; self-motivated, engaged team player who has demonstrated success collaborating across teams.
  • CCNA or JNCIA Certification.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply working knowledge of wireless engineering on new projects.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communications.
  • Knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment.
  • Knowledge of Cisco and/or Juniper routers.
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux operating systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office product suite or Google productivity suite.
  • Training or experience in 2 or more of the following areas:
    • data communications
    • digital communications
    • operating systems and applications
    • telecommunications
    • networking or router support
    • project management
