What you’ll be doing...

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing the transition of edge applications to cloud based architecture. This position will drive the evolution and deployment of edge applications, with an emphasis on finding and developing better ways to automate recurring work effectively.
  • Provide engineering leadership and direction to optimize applications and drive issue resolution. This involves working closely with all application owners and vendors to ensure end-to end service performance metrics are achieved.
  • Provide leadership and drive troubleshooting teams made of infrastructure vendors and Verizon Wireless teams towards resolution of application issues and outages.
  • Recommend system modifications or enhancements to improve application performance and quality.
  • Develop and refine application and infrastructure test plans.
  • Provide leadership and subject matter expertise to team.
  • Initiate and manage projects for network builds, modifying configurations, refining designs, and troubleshooting issues/analyzing problems.
  • Manage multiple projects at one time and ensure projects stay within budget.
  • Lead FOAs and support HQ proof of concept initiatives including new application turn-ups / instantiations.
  • Use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions in the best interest of the business.

What we’re looking for...

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Five or more years of Automation and scripting/coding skills.
  • Three or more years of EPC application engineering experience.
  • Experience analyzing and resolving complex problems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot both application and infrastructure issues.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, LAN/WAN and IP routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS).
  • Strong knowledge of interdependent aspects of virtual applications including eNSE, VCP-E, Openstack, application, and software skills (Linux/Unix, Python, Ansible, and automation tools).
  • Experience engineering, monitoring, and growing complex data networks.
  • Experience in wireless switching environment desirable.
  • Master’s Degree in science or engineering.

  • Possess a proactive work style with the ability to set priorities, work with minimum supervision and with a diverse group of professionals.
  • Proactive approach with professional development including technical and leadership training / certificates.

  • Initiative to independently identify issues, come up with timely, creative solutions, and own issues through resolution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of management.
