What you’ll be doing...

Working within the wider Cyber Defence Professional Security Services (PSS) practice the NG Principal Security Consultant will provide pre-sales, technical governance and delivery leadership of the PSS consultancy team dedicated to the support of the National Grid client across UK and US regions.

It is expected that the role will be part client billable with between 50% and 70% of time being project funded.

The role includes the following more specific responsibilities relating to the specific support of National Grid.

Pre-sales:

  • Work directly with the Verizon sales teams to identify and refine end-client business requirements and associated security services solutions;
  • Take a leading role in the definition, scope, approach, planning and estimating of large PSS security opportunities
  • Attend client meetings where applicable, up to CxO level;
  • Support and actively participate in the business development of the PSS practice by identifying additional business opportunities within the current client base;
  • Provide high level and informed business consulting with an emphasis on demonstrating the value and role of PSS in large businesses;
  • Manage pre-sales activities in a timely and efficient manner following the agreed business practices using the applicable tools;
  • Build strong and effective working relationships with the Verizon Sales organization.
  • Drive upsell and growth of Cyber defense consulting services
  • Manage your account portfolio as your own business with focus on revenue growth and proving leadership on the value proposition of Verizon Security services.

Consulting:

Working as a core contributor within the customers Architectural team the Principal Consultant works with key business stakeholders and subject matter experts, to build a holistic view of the client strategy, processes and information technology assets and their associated security demands. The Principal Consultant will leverage this knowledge to ensure that ongoing business security requirements and underlying infrastructure remain aligned through the creation and execution of a security road map.

  • Work with presales team to drive growth in region and help with proposals and strategy to drive deals that relate to security transformation in multiple domains from Design, Build and Operate phases
  • Align directly with key customer stakeholders including but not limited to; the CISO/CTO/CIO and/ or the customer’s architecture lead.
  • Develop, maintain and grow these relationships to become the ‘trusted partner’ of these key stakeholders
  • Act as Senior Though Leader and establish strong client relationships in key accounts to help progress the Security Services portfolio
  • Review and analyze current security technology infrastructure and its ability to support dynamic strategic corporate objectives
  • Identify and propose specific security strategies, initiatives and remediation plans to maintain alignment between the delivery infrastructure and corporate objectives
  • Define the Innovation, Security Architecture and associated Security roadmaps that deliver against the business objectives
  • Transition and Transformation strategy: Support development of business security requirements definition, business case and high level program implementation plans.
  • Translate Client business issues/opportunities into security solution/business requirements
  • Support client executives in the preparation of business cases to clearly demonstrate ROI for security initiatives.
  • Act as a Thought Leader for the client’s business goals and vision via regular in-person and written communications with the client executives, department heads and end users.

Program Delivery:

  • Participate in the production of coherent technical proposals that meet all stakeholder requirements including: - (Actual production will sit with Security Solution Architects).
  • Verizon portfolio standards;
  • Project requestor’s requirements;
  • National Grids requirements.
    • Ensure that adequate direction is provided at project proposal stage such that:
    • Security solution architects correctly scope business user requirements to determine a security model and provide adequate designs for project proposals to proceed;
  • Professional security services are engaged to provide necessary work packages and detailed designs for delivery.
    • Understand and coordinate the technical dependencies between the various projects delivering proposals and provide governance and oversight to the Service Leads to ensure proper communication and alignment.
    • Provide oversight and governance from a project perspective, ensuring the PMO design authorities (and BAU teams) receive a project that follows the correct security policies, processes and procedures as a solution.

Practice development:

  • Make a significant contribution to the on-going development of PSS security services to ensure that they reflect current industry best practice and trends and remain aligned to customer requirements and expectations;
  • Act as a mentor to less experienced members of the PSS team;
  • Support the practice lead in local management activities;
  • Act as an advocate of the PSS team within the wider Verizon business.

General:

  • Maintain day to day records of project work to allow accurate billing and reporting of consultancy time;
  • Maintain effective network of business contacts within Verizon and their partner community;
  • Maintain and grow their own knowledge to ensure this maintains fully relevant to the security services practice and its clients;
  • Provide staff management/coaching where assigned;
  • Have strong presentation and written/verbal communications skills at multiple levels of an organization;
  • Have security consulting experience in a wider security area and be able to demonstrate personal experience of managing multiple consultants and projects simultaneously.

  • Experience in production of detailed infrastructure designs including physical and virtual aspects of security components.
  • Significant commercial exposure having fully contributed to the definition and scoping of consultancy assignments.
  • Significant team leadership experience either through direct line management or within a project capacity.
  • Design and architecture expertise in at least three of the following network security domains:
    • Application FWs: Bluecoat, F5 ASM, Zscaler, Cisco IronPort;
    • Network FWs: Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Check Point, Fortinet;
    • IDP/IPS: Sourcefire, McAfee;
    • Cloud Security Services: Zscaler; Azure, AWS
    • Vulnerability Scanners: Skybox, Nessus, Nikto, Qualys;
    • APT: FireEye, Palo Alto WildFire;
    • Identity & Access Management: Cisco ISE;
  • Governance and Analytics: Bluecoat, Tufin, Skybox, Splunk
  • Good general knowledge and expertise of networking (TCP/IP, routing, switching, WAN, LAN, …)
  • Experience of multi-vendor, managed outsourcing environments.
  • Experience working with operational environments following ITIL frameworks.
  • Strong personal time management skills.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills (technical and non-technical).
  • A good eye for detail including the ability to constructively review team deliverables including documentation.
  • It is likely that you will have gained the following professional qualifications:
    • ITIL v3;
    • Project Management Professional (PMP);
    • CISSP or equivalent;
    • CISM;
    • GIAC;
    • SABSA, TOGAF
