What you’ll be doing...

Our Verizon Wireless Network Security Incident Response Team (NSIRT) is at the front line of detecting, monitoring for and responding to cybersecurity incidents within the Wireless Network infrastructure. You will have a crucial role in defending the Wireless network from potential and active threats. You will be agile, willing to learn and able to think outside of the box in order to operate effectively in an ever changing threat landscape. You will have the opportunity to work with cutting edge tools to monitor and defend the Verizon Wireless network infrastructure and customers from a wide array of cyber threats. You will have a crucial role in defending the Wireless network from potential and active threats.

  • Monitoring and analyzing logs and alerts from a variety of platforms in order to identify and mitigate security incidents affecting our network infrastructure and customer networks. This includes analyzing logs from IDS/IPS, firewalls, proxies, anti-virus and endpoint protection, servers and workstations, and other security tools and devices.
  • Following defined workflow and processes for threat remediation and escalation/handoff where required.
  • Ensuring all issues are ticketed promptly and effectively.
  • Utilizing a variety of security tools and techniques to analyze suspicious events, network anomalies and other potential threats to determine impact, scope and recovery.
  • Using automated malware analysis to determine threat impact and taking actions appropriately.
  • Developing plans to take the appropriate response including threat containment and/or escalation.
  • Mitigating threats based on results of analysis and determination of validity.
  • Effectively documenting results of cyber threat analysis for knowledge sharing and/or handoff/escalation to other teams.
  • Supporting security tools and platforms owned and operated by NSIRT.
  • Proactively searching for anomalous events and investigating appropriately.
  • Providing feedback and recommendations on workflow, process or tools to improve defensive capabilities.
  • Following up and following through with commitments, exhibiting initiative and taking responsibility for your work.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Experience in an Operations Center (SOC/NOC) / monitoring environment.
  • Experience working with SIEM technologies (i.e. Splunk).
  • Experience with threat monitoring procedures.
  • Knowledge of threats, attacks, logs, operating systems and security technology (firewalls, anti-malware, proxies, etc.)
  • Cybersecurity experience in the Telecommunications industry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cyber risks and security issues.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Antivirus, IDS, deep packet inspection and host/network threat analysis.
  • Knowledge of networking (including the OSI Model, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SMTP), system administration or security architecture.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of mobile platforms: iOS, Android.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work well both independently and in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high pressure environment.
  • Effective organizational skills.
  • Certifications (Security+, CISSP, GSEC).
