What you’ll be doing...

As an Operations Systems Support Engineer, you will be responsible for a wide range of activities surrounding the on-going maintenance and expert level support of Verizon Managed Services applications, tools, and platforms, including but not limited to change management, incident response, problem resolution, and risk management. This work will require the qualified candidate to have intermediate to advanced linux command line and linux administrator experience. Thew work will include resolving escalations from network operations centers, project teams, IT and management teams. You will be expected to own and drive resolution of highly complex system and application issues, complex change management, while working with product marketing, account teams, and other internal organizations (IT, Engineering, Infrastructure, etc.) on product wide issues as well as product readiness projects. You will also work on configuration and troubleshooting of the Cisco ISE platform. As a Systems Support Engineer, you will directly interact with network operations and, at times, the customer on high visibility and complex technical issues. The Systems Support Engineer will have a background focused on advanced technical skills with operating systems, network management applications, and networking protocols


  • Incident management and troubleshooting to resolve issues with tools, applications, and platforms
  • Escalation point for ISE services incidents or complex changes
  • Change management in a custom Cisco Identify Services Engine environment
  • Mentor network operations engineers
  • Support new technology and product integration
  • Assist with remediation efforts of security vulnerabilities per procedure
  • Review and provide technical analysis on IAR’s
  • Perform alarm studies
  • Create and maintain knowledge articles
  • Analyze platform issues and manage escalations to various IT organization

What we’re looking for...

You Must Have:

  • Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of work experience
  • 4 or more years of relevant experience
  • 4 or more years of hands-on advanced troubleshooting experience with:
    • Linux/Unix Operating Systems
    • Applications support
    • Networking
  • Intermediate to advanced Linux command line administration experience
  • Experience with common network security practices, standards, and troubleshooting.
  • Must be flexible with work hours, as position may be required to work an off-shift or on-call rotation

Even Better If You Also Have

  • Intermediate knowledge of network management platforms, applications and protocols, to include at least one or more operating systems such as:
    • Linux, Unix and Windows; LAN and WAN concepts (including wireless LAN)
  • An understanding of multi-layered monitoring suites and be able to trace an alarm condition from its source to its destination system or application
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux command line utilities such as grep, sed, awk, tcpdump
  • Experience working with PERL, python and shell scripts
  • Experience working in Linux (RedHat version 6/7); Solaris (version 10); Windows Server (version 2012R2) and Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop (version, 7.15 or similar) environments
  • Cisco ISE configuration, administration, and troubleshootingexperience
  • Intermediate knowledge of IT concepts, OS, application support, and network management
  • Broad knowledge of Managed Services products
  • Basic knowledge of network routing and switching concepts.
  • At least one certification in area of support such as: OS certification, ITIL, PMP, CCNA, CCNP, Security+, Network+, etc
  • Able to multitask in a high visibility environment
  • Work independently and with a team
  • Excellent communications and customer service skills
  • Abilityto deliver results under pressure.
  • Ability to interface successfully with both the customer’s technical and non-technical contacts, VZ Account teams and various other groups involved in the delivery of service to the end customer
