What you’ll be doing...

  • Collecting data related to system problems, analyzing it, and developing resolutions.
  • Maintaining functional and technical requirements, analyzing hardware/software features and enhancements, and understanding system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs, and device-system interactions.
  • Interpreting industry standards to ensure the integrity of our platform engineering designs and vetting all methods of procedures (MOPs) to ensure technical standards are met.
  • Assisting in planning, designing, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new system hardware, software, and virtualized functions of the cloud.
  • Partnering with various HQ departments in technology trials, interoperability tests, run first office applications.
  • Participating in vendor evaluations, and performing evaluations and quality control analysis.
  • Overseeing multiple large-scale, complex platforms and providing third-tier support functions.

Subject Matter Expert and 3rd tier support:

The PMTS will be responsible for acting as a subject matter expert who provides technical leadership and expert level guidance with regards to the Roaming Gateway (RGW) platform and end-to-end roaming call flows. As a subject matter expert, individual will responsible for leading multi-discipline teams, performing technical analysis of proposed solutions and drive collaboration with other teams for the integration and validation in the lab, FOA (First Office Application) and during commercial deployment.

Roadmap, Lab and FOA:

The PMTS will be engaged in planning, design, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new system hardware and software. The engineer will work with the vendor to develop and implement product roadmaps which improve the product performance, functionality and program profitability for Verizon Wireless. The engineer will actively manage VZW and vendor lab environments in which they will test and refine new hardware/software before approval for installation in the production environment. The engineer will lead operational teams in the FOA process for the first installation of new hardware/software. The engineer will lead the test automation and CICD effort for the platform.

Design consistency, standardization and reliability:

The PMTS will create and publish functional and technical requirements. The engineer will analyze design, features and enhancements in order to develop test plans which effectively confirm the successful deployment and operation of the product. The engineer will fully understand system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs and device-system interactions in order to develop troubleshooting guides to be used by all other Network organizations.

Outage management:

The PMTS will provide outage resolution oversight. The engineer will act as the central VZW escalation/support contact to NRB, NOCC, customer service, national/regional operations and performance teams when major outages occur. The engineer will collect, identify and evaluate data relating to system problems that impact application performance and efficiency. The engineer will analyze system failures and develop short- as well as long-term solutions to address each. The engineer will be responsible for vendor escalation to ensure minimum outage duration. The engineer will need to be able to work with multiple vendors across multiple platforms to achieve system stability

Administrative management:

The PMTS will provide administrative management of the monitored products. This management requires the engineer to negotiate Service Level Agreements, Statements of Work and General Purchasing Agreements. The engineer will review vendor performance regularly in order to ensure technical compliance with agreements. When necessary the engineer will be involved in the collection of penalties from the vendor for non-compliance. The engineer will be challenged to minimize the cost of all new capital purchases as well as actively reduce existing vendor expense costs "year over year".

You work effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and you’re great at partnering with the groups you support. You constantly look for ways to make a great network design better, and you’re a natural mentor to junior engineers looking to develop their technical skills.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Wireless industry experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in computer science or electrical engineering.
  • Experience with Red Hat Linux, virtualization (KVM),
  • Experience with cloud architecture.
  • Experience with Management and Orchestration (NFVi or Resource Orchestration).
  • Experience with OpenStack (RHEL Director) and OpenStack services (Horizon, Nova, Neutron, Keystone, Ceilometer, Glance, Heat, Cinder/Swift, or Ceph).
  • Project/vendor management experience.
  • Experience with Python, bash, JSON, YAML, REST, or Ansible.
  • Experience with QCOW2 or RAW images.
  • Experience with TCP/IP, Routing and OSI 7-layer protocol.
  • Experience with Server Load Balancing (SLB).
  • Experience with IMS and/or VoLTE.
  • Experience with network automation and deployment methods, managing data center elements, hardware, software, and power requirements, and overseeing vendors.
  • Experience in end-to-end architecture, design, test, implementation and support of roaming solutions.
  • Experience with mobile handsets/SIM .
  • Knowledge of the OSI Interconnect model and how it relates to the design and deployment of structured networks.
  • Five or more years of experience with platform load, stress and performance characterization.
  • Three or more years of experience with deploying VNF components within virtualized Openstack environments.
  • Two or more years of experience with CICD (Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery) and Test Automation framework (Robot Framework).
  • Python, Ansible scripting experience.
  • Experience working with Agile Development teams.
  • Strong network/systems design, configuration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work under tight deadline with constantly changing priorities.
  • Experience in application integration and vendor management.
