What you’ll be doing...

This position is responsible for managing the compliance for Regulatory filings for the Wireline and Wireless businesses. The position will encompass preparation and/or review of tax returns and regulatory filings, research and interpretation of statutes and laws, analysis of accounting entries and surcharge recovery and other related tasks.

  • Manage wireline and wireless compliance process for the Regulatory Team including preparation of key filings
  • Prepare and/or review Regulatory filings which include those filed with the FCC, PUC, State Regulatory Agencies and third party fund administrators for all Verizon owned companies to ensure that they are accurately and timely filed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, judicial decisions, and rulings
  • Develop and update surcharge rates by creating and maintaining cost recovery models
  • Work on and manage projects that include implementation of cost savings strategies and process improvements to enhance the compliance process
  • Manage the accounting aspect of the Regulatory function, including review of account reconciliations, review of accrual journal entries and understanding surcharge recovery and expense gaps
  • Review payments and manage the liabilities and expenses related to the tax returns; work with AP, Treasury and various in-house payment systems
  • Compile the annual budget and manage monthly cash forecasts
  • Involved with mergers and acquisitions (including due diligence and computing purchase price adjustments)
  • Manage and adhere to all SOX controls
  • Assist with all Regulatory related audits
  • Develop best practices for Team
  • Conduct research as needed, including the tax impact to all Regulatory filings with the addition of any new products and services
  • Understand the financial statements and be able to interpret for compliance impacts
  • Focus on identifying process improvements and streamlining existing procedures

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Five or more years of experience in finance, tax or related field.

Even better if you have:

  • Master’s degree in accounting, taxation or related discipline or CPA.
  • Experience with tax research, tax accounting, SOX processes, telecommunication taxes, and tax saving strategies.
  • Ability to prioritize deliverables with competing timelines.
  • Ability to work in accurately managing deadlines.
  • Ability will interface with tax legal, tax technology, tax compliance, tax research and other business groups.
  • Knowledge of tax law, compliance procedures, accrual methodology, and tax initiatives.
  • Oral, written and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work both independently or leading a team.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Knowledge with the data requirements needed for the preparation and filing of tax returns (ie: knowledge of billing systems, etc.).
  • Experience working with models for forecasting revenue and expense.
  • Knowledge of various tax systems, such as CCH, RIA, and Vertex.
  • Experience to PeopleSoft or SAP or other major General Ledger Suite Software.
  • Working knowledge of artificial intelligence (ie: “BOTS”) technical skills.
  • Experience handling audits and replying to State and Local Auditor IDR’s.
