What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is looking for a talented, dynamic, customer-centric Contract Specialist to be responsible for generating the first drafts of business-to-business service agreements for large and sophisticated multinational commercial enterprise accounts, and to support the legal review and negotiations of such agreements. The Contract Specialist will review customer redlines and suggest Verizon responses and fallbacks and thereby be required to work towards a balance of protecting Verizon from risk and closing revenue-generating deals. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with internal Verizon teams of Sales, Operations, Offer Development, Pricing Contracts Management, Finance and Presale while providing front-line support for the Enterprise Legal attorneys. We are looking for a quick learner who can keep abreast of rapidly changing technology and new product offerings. This is a growth opportunity for someone with initiative who seeks a position requiring both legal skills and business savvy.

The Contract Specialist is expected to fulfill a variety of functions including:

  • Obtain clarification and approvals from Pricing Contracts Management, Offer Development and Presales for contract drafts
  • Generating first drafts of contracts, amendments, nondisclosure agreements, statements of work, RFP responses and ancillary legal documents.
  • Ensure that contract drafts are legally sound and comply with all Verizon policies and practices and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Use playbook to provide initial responses to customer redlines.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in EMEA, AsiaPac, and LatAm on global agreements.
  • Support the Legal Department with ongoing and special initiatives, including process improvement and template development.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with internal Sales and Finance clients, Verizon legal colleagues, other internal stakeholders, and external customers.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel.                  

Even better if you have:

  • Paralegal certificate or pre-law courses.
  • Five or more years of relevant and recent legal experience in a similar work environment (i.e., fast paced in-house corporate legal department, law firm, or government).
  • Focus on drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, developing responses to proposals, and supporting distribution, sales or procurement clients.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications and technology industry.
  • Ability to work with multiple internal and external groups simultaneously to quickly achieve common goals.
  • Well-honed project management and organizational skills needed to closely manage multiple transactions and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact comfortably with personnel in various roles and levels across the organization, and enforce legal requirements without alienating clients.
  • Ability to spot problems and develop and lead implementation of creative solutions.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative to develop, lead and implement special projects.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, MS Office, etc.), and the ability to learn and work in Verizon contracting and workflow reporting systems. Willingness to learn G-Suite.
