What you’ll be doing...

This position works across the organization to identify and analyze key strategic questions that either underpin decisions made by or are on top of mind of Verizon’s Board of Directors and executive leadership. This role is dynamic, fast paced and covers a broad range of issues impacting the telecom, media and technology sectors, with a focus on the Public Sector Segment (Federal, State, and Local Government). Our primary responsibility is to lead cross-functional teams through the process of building medium to long-term business unit growth strategies, business cases, and recommend key strategic actions.

Verizon operates in multiple business segments: business, consumer, and media—and as such, the candidate is expected to be knowledgeable about the entire value chain and/or technology stacks, competitive landscape, and business value creation opportunities. This role will work closely with a newly established public sector go-to-market unit to develop public sector growth strategies that will enhance shareholder value. Responsibilities will also include analysis and recommendation related to emerging industry trends, expansion opportunities, new market entry, and strategic alignment. In this role, the successful candidate will work on highly complex problems, develop deep insight into the strategic issues, inform senior leader-level decision making, and help shape the company’s long-term growth profile.

This role will be required to:

  • Identify, prioritize, structure, and solve complex business problems, with analytics and sound business judgment
  • Manage communication with the business teams
  • Facilitate ideation sessions and help product / brand teams understand business opportunities
  • Contribute to development of an integrated business strategy
  • Work with business unit leaders in developing, implementing, and executing across a variety of strategic initiatives
  • Assess market opportunity (addressable market, customer segments, geography, etc.)
  • Manage additional work needed to refine solution hypotheses before preliminary assessment
  • Serve as a business expert to help capture internal innovation projects and facilitate the rapid sharing of best practices
  • Lead research engagements to develop and articulate perspectives on mid-term topics and provide thought leadership
  • Maintain a variety of models, unit economic analysis, capital investment customer cohorts, etc.
  • Serve as the critical resource and subject matter expert in the discovery, evaluation, and selection of growth businesses, and partner with the M&A team to inform inorganic strategy and complete required due diligence

The position requires an in-depth knowledge of Verizon’s product portfolios and the Public Sector customer segment. The successful candidate should be professionally polished, have sound business acumen, breadth of quantitative and analytical skills, and excellent communication skills. The candidate will have the maturity and confidence to interface with all levels within the company and a humble self-aware personal style that enables them to lead cross functional teams to gain consensus around strategic solutions. S/he will have a demonstrable track record of achieving results and a deep experience in collaborating with a diverse set of stakeholders to get results across multiple groups and disciplines. To be successful in the role, the candidate needs to be extremely comfortable with working in ambiguous environments, must be extremely curious, have high energy, and be fearless about taking initiatives. The candidate must be a self-starter, a natural leader, creative, an innovative thinker, and have a passion for excellence.

What we’re looking for...

  • BS in finance, economics, or technology field, or equivalent work experience; MBA highly desired
  • 10+ years of business unit or corporate strategy, scenario planning, consulting from a top-tier management consulting or services company
  • 7+ years of experience working with enterprise or business clients
  • Knowledge of Verizon’s product portfolio required
  • Knowledge of Public Sector required
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to persuasively deliver presentations to senior executives
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Exceptional critical and analytical skills
  • Must demonstrate strategic thinking, curiosity, financial acumen, and creative thought leadership
