The Systems Team within Verizon Connect is responsible for designing and operating our infrastructure and Data Center strategy to provide a highly available, scalable hosting infrastructure with high performance. We are looking for an experienced technical leader and strategist to take our SAAS hosting platform and data center operations to the next level and help us grow the business by defining and delivering industry leading next generation hosting infrastructure operations architected for the cloud. The ideal person would be technically deep, aspire to build awesome technology, and capable of hiring and developing the best engineering talent.

As Manager of Systems Technology, you will lead a world class system administration team responsible for the design and operations behind how our software was built and how to build new technology best suited for the cloud. You will draw from your deep and broad technical expertise to hire and mentor engineers, complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical issues. Your team is distributed in Atlanta and New Zealand.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Five or more years of engineering experience
  • Two or more years of people management experience.
  • Five or more years of experience operating software services in a Linux or Windows Server environment.
  • Knowledge of IaaS, AWS cloud technologies and outsourcing.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Three or more years of experience operating mission critical online services.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good business and technical vision.
  • Experience in an internet operational environment, including multiple data centers and hundreds of servers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries, bringing together people with diverse perspectives and experience to find solutions.
  • Experience with *NIX system administration, C#, Linux/Unix, Perl and Python.
  • Good customer relationship skills and experience of managing vendors.

  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering, Linux & Networking Technologies, data center operations and systems automation.
  • Knowledge in Linux and Windows Server.
  • Ability to take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.
  • Technical project management skills to deliver product roadmap items as well as other cross-team projects.
  • Excellent at using metrics, monitoring and alarming to measure and improve the operational processes and performance of their team.
