What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is investing in its network to improve the way we live, work, and communicate. Our network transformation will be critical for all our future connectivity businesses including new products such as VBI, 5G, and future smart cities. As part of this network transformation, you will help build one network engineered for growth for all lines of business.

  • Perform complex drafting duties and assignments of limited scope.
  • Ensure standard organizational practices and guidelines are followed.
  • Solve problems of a somewhat complex nature and assist peers with solving problems and resolving issues.
  • Prepare custom maps and diagrams from GIS data.
  • Conduct research to locate and obtain existing feature sets.
  • Gather, analyze, and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how best the information can be displayed using GIS.
  • Compile geographic data from a variety of sources including censuses, field observations, satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
  • Analyze spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
  • Analyze geographic relationships among varying types of data.
  • Move, copy, delete, and add files, drawings, and maps to output reports in hard copy or electronic transfer.
  • Convert electronic files to PDF and upload to File Management Database.
  • Process all inquiries received from DOT’s, State, Local Municipalities and Private Engineering firms by e-mail or hard copy.
  • Check for impact on Verizon Facilities, determine conflict status, prioritize short lead times and distribute projects with potential conflicts to the appropriate Regional Engineer.
  • Process Design Tickets.
  • Process Vacation of Easement requests.
  • Assist other groups i.e. Engineering/Right of Way/Legal with identifying facility locations and As-built information.
  • Be the point of contact for phone inquiries, regardless of whether the requester is internal or from an outside source, including any questions regarding interpretations/clarifications of any maps or as-builts they were sent.

As a strong communicator, you can quickly build relationships with a diverse range of people and explain complex technical issues in a way that everyone can understand.

You’ll need to have:

  • Associate's degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • A valid driver's license.

Even better if you have:

  • Associates degree or ESRI Technical Certification.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications Outside Plant Inventory and technologies like Optical Distribution Networks.
  • Ability to read and interpret underground and aerial telecom facilities records on maps and fielding notes.
  • Experience with GIS based design platforms, including 3-GIS.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to solve problems using the GIS suite of tools.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and make sound decisions using information at hand.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • General computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio) Google Earth, general database applications and Adobe Pro.
