What you’ll be doing...

In the role of a Manager Engineering and Development, you will lead a team that will interface with maintenance operations, national field operations, and select Verizon suppliers to develop, communicate, validate, and enforce fleet asset specifications, policies and procedures.

  • Manager responsibilities include, but not limited to, mentoring, leadership, conducting performance reviews, development of business cases related to funding arrangements and project management.

  • Lead and motivate team to accomplish deliverables in specified timeframes to meet fleet objectives.

  • Regularly research technological advances and improvements in the vehicle industry; evaluate new types of vehicle and related equipment components to determine their viability and application in new vehicle design to increase operational productivity in a cost effective manner.

  • Provide strategic direction and critical milestone tracking to insure best practice initiatives are completed. Includes but not limited to; Information gathering, opportunities analysis, implementation recommendation, reporting metrics to measure success, to plan, execution and documentation.

  • Creation of metrics and analytics related to spec’ing, purchasing and maintaining fleet vehicles, trailers and specialized equipment.

  • Track projects both long term and short term and able to meet commitment dates.

  • Develop and implement engineering principles as they pertain to vehicles, equipment, trailers, hydraulics and electrical systems both AC and DC

  • Interpret manuals and schematics for vehicles, trucks, hydraulics, trailers, equipment and electrical both AC and DC

  • Evaluate customer problems / requirements and identify appropriate solutions to include making cost benefit decisions

  • Interface with suppliers to ensure Verizon specifications are achieved.

  • Evaluate alternative fuel strategies, energy and pollution reducing technologies in support of a broader sustainability strategy.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor'sdegree or equivalent work experience.

  • In depth mechanical knowledge of all class of vehicles, equipment, and trailers.

  • Create and deliver presentations in addition to the review, update and or creation of standard operating procedures.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools; specifically MS Project, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • A basic knowledge of DOT, FMVSS, FMCSA, OSHA and ANSI regulations.

  • Understanding of Preventive Maintenance practices for large diverse fleet.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendor relations

Even better if you have:

  • Project Management certification.

  • Master Mechanic certification.

  • Experience with various upfitting processes.

  • Proven record of driving project results from start to finish.

  • Telecommunication or Utility equipment background.

  • Proven experience with direct or indirect authority of cross functional teams, processes and levels of management.
