What you’ll be doing...

Verizon is investing in its network to improve the way we live, work, and communicate. Our network transformation will be critical for all our future connectivity businesses including new products such as IoT, 5G, and future smart cities. As part of this network transformation, you will help build one network engineered for growth for all lines of business. In this position, you must be a strong leader with sound ISP technical experience who thrives in a highly fast paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing all engineering activities associated with expanding and maintaining the ISP network infrastructure for Fiber Access Engineering.
  • Implementation of projects varying in complexity, driving productivity through use of internal and external resources to meet deliverables for projects within standard timelines or aggressive deadlines.
  • Engages appropriate internal and external organizations with professional written/verbal communications to accomplish required tasks.
  • Coordinates project activities with project managers, contractors, building managers, operations, other cross functional teams.
  • Proposes solutions supported by sound engineering and operational productivity to achieve goals in creative and effective ways while adhering to Verizon Engineering standards.
  • Recognizes vulnerabilities in network infrastructure and makes intelligent decisions to ensure reliability – within financial constraints.
  • Prepare detailed cost analysis, project specifications, spending forecasts, requisitions, and business justifications.
  • Provides concise reporting of status and information in presentation format for leadership consumption.
  • Processes reports, vendor invoices, material receipts, and other administrative duties.
  • Receives general instruction, otherwise performs independently with minimal supervision, exercising latitude to achieve daily objectives and approaches to critical/complex assignments.
  • Multi-tasks to effectively manage a wide range of simultaneous activities often interrupted by other demands.
  • Create Installation Specifications, Splicing Diagrams, and Facility Prep packages for field install and test. Maintain local site and fiber records.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or two or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Ten or more years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • Sound ISP engineering experience deploying Transport, GPON, and fiber optic networks.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles within ISP job related functional area to include general practices, procedures and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of engineering/design and review, knowledge of Wireline central office, Wireless Hub, and Customer POP environments.
  • Strong computer Skills (Databases, Processes, and Administrative) - Robust knowledge and skill for more complex applications to include Word, Excel, Visio, AutoCAD, 3GIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth and other telco industry standard software platforms. Verizon Engineering Database knowledge.
  • Organizational, interpersonal, negotiation, people development and operational skills.
