What you’ll be doing...

The Cary NMC Network Management Center is looking for motivated engineers who are able to perform surveillance, break/fix maintenance support, and outage notification on the Verizon Global VoIP (Voice Over IP), TDM and Global SS7 Switching Networks in a 24x7 Maintenance operations center. Technologies include but are not limited to Genband, SONUS, Ericsson, Siemens 5ESS, Alcatel and Tekelec.

Responsibilities include:

  • Proactive network monitoring, following established procedures when responding to network alarms and events.
  • Trouble Ticket management, Outage communication management, processing escalations. Generate, drive, and update problem-tracking tickets via multiple systems and continually improve business practices.
  • Perform triage, fault isolation, and remediation of network events.
  • Work with external and internal Verizon organizations coordinating and troubleshooting network events.
  • Willingness to work all shifts, enhance automation through scripting and robotics process automation (RPA), and improve how the team functions for increased efficiency.
  • Provide timely and accurate network technical assistance to external teams by communicating technical details and status to customer service centers, technical support organizations, and executive management teams during network events and major outages.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or one or more years of work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in computer science, electrical engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Two or more years of relevant experience in Switching (5ESS, DMS, Ericsson, etc.).
  • Knowledge with Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC) concepts and methodologies, supporting automation initiatives and process improvements.
  • Knowledge of basic call processing and basic telephony.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, including excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Network Operations Center experience.
  • Scripting with Python, No-JS, Perl, or equivalent languages with examples of projects implemented.
  • Experience driving automation initiatives.
