What you’ll be doing...

Skyward, A Verizon company is hiring an sUAS Services Engineer capable of providing small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) regulatory, technical, and operational expertise for Skyward’s professional service clients. The ideal candidate has extensive and documented experience liaising with FAA and other regulatory bodies on obtaining waivers and permissions for accessing complex airspace. The candidate must be able to develop and maintain operational methodologies for supporting projects like sUAS training, proof of concepts (POCs) with complex systems, and sUAS standard operating procedures (SOPs). The candidate must have significant commercial drone operational experience including but not limited to flight training, aerial photogrammetry, and thermal imaging with sUAS. The candidate must demonstrate strong competency with aviation and occupational safety principles and best practices as they relate to sUAS operations. The candidate must be able to travel within the USA to client training sites during the work week for up to 15 workdays a month.

What you’ll be doing..

This sUAS Services Engineer will work closely with Skyward professional services team to deliver sUAS regulatory, technical, and operational, consulting services.

  • Develop Skyward professional services content & offerings to meet client requirements by supporting operational, regulatory, and technical components
  • Discovery consultations to understand sUAS use case, program organization, operating procedures
  • Recommend and develop regulatory approach for enabling client sUAS use case
  • Recommend and conduct proof-of-concept validation of technical approaches for enabling client use case
  • Develop operational procedures for enhancing safety or in response to incidents
  • Make recommendations to adapt client flight operations and procedures to the latest best practices and support adoption of Skyward software and other products
  • Meet with Skyward clients remotely or in-person as part of professional services engagements
  • Develop sUAS training curriculum for clients
  • Deliver sUAS flight, safety, and knowledge training to Skyward clients in classroom, workshop or field setting
  • Manage projects to ensure timely delivery of services
  • Sequence sUAS operations and tasks into client schedules
  • Travel to client sites for up to 15 workdays a month to provide onsite services
  • Provide operational support for client training (airspace authorization, equipment preparation, training site identification)
  • Participate in occasional standardization training provided by Skyward

What we’re looking for...

You will need to have

  • Current 14 CFR Part 107 remote pilot certificate and responsible for renewing upon expiry
  • Extensive experience requesting regulatory waivers and authorizations for accessing complex airspace
  • Experience providing sUAS flight training for commercial applications

Even better if you have

  • Able to learn the Skyward SaaS platform (web & mobile apps) at expert-level proficiency
  • Extensive experience with sUAS mapping tools such as DroneDeploy, Pix4D, etc.
  • Experience developing operational training curriculum
  • Extensive experience conducting independent operation of sUAS (drones) in demanding environments (real time risk assessment) such as near electrical infrastructure, or construction sites
  • Extensive experience operating sUAS including multi-rotor and fixed wing (like DJI Phantom, Matrice, Sensefly eBee, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand aviation regulatory, policy, operational requirements and reconcile them with client business needs in order to recommend best practices for the employment of sUAS
  • Familiarity with small unmanned aircraft system operations, equipment and performance characteristics
  • Documented 3+ years experience as a Commercial sUAS operator in the USA
  • Experience with obtaining sUAS airspace authorizations in the USA
  • Experience with obtaining waivers to 14 CFR Part 107
  • Significant experience with sUAS tech and equipment such as LiDAR, thermal, etc.
  • Able to travel within the continental USA and internationally to a lesser extent
  • Willingness to wear Skyward provided standard equipment
  • Willingness to use Skyward training guidelines
