What you’ll be doing...

We are looking for a Manager to join the Verizon GTS Team. The Manager is responsible for managing large teams and large-size programs of all levels of complexity, planning and directing program activities to ensure the timely development and delivery of reliable and efficient systems-related solutions to business requirements, managing to scheduled deadlines.

  • Regularly leads teams and works independently, with occasional direction given on very complex issues.
  • Leads a team of 6-12 RTEs (Release Train Engineers), formerly known as CAMs.
  • Communicates regularly with clients (Business Teams) and members of other GTS groups (Production Control, Applications Development, Network Services, Systems Test, Business Analyst, Enterprise Architecture, etc.) on project status, planned work and user involvement required. Establishes effective working relationships with other managers, subordinates, peers, other departments and clients.
  • Manages the preparation of periodic GTS project status reports and monitors the submissions to “central publication” to all GTS clients.
  • Ensures programs follow our Agile system life cycle and framework, that teams have robust roadmaps, perform value team and core team grooming sessions, release planning, daily touch point calls, and periodic retrospectives. Makes appropriate adjustments to manage programs as they “unfold” involving appropriate GTS resources from other areas (Enterprise Architecture, Network, Business Requirements and Application Development teams), even if this involvement was not included in the original roadmap. Ensures Epic and Program teams are staffed effectively. Recommends changes/additions to the teams, as appropriate continually improving quality while increasing team velocity and reducing man-hours needed for time to value. Manages GTS budget standards for respective area of responsibility.
  • Monitors the preparation of weekly reports for upper management regarding program/business status. These reports are circulated throughout the business and must be high level but with enough content that the reader understands what is changing, why it is changing and what the expected benefits are of those changes.
  • Ensures that programs are kept current for reporting purposes (story points entered, sub-tasks set up as appropriate, completed tasks closed out, etc.). Ensures teams maintain good Jira practices in moving tasks through their Kanban boards. Communicates important developments and activities to clients and GTS management as appropriate.
  • Participates in budget planning and provides input that is accurate and timely.
  • Staffs vacancies based on headcount in a timely fashion.
  • Participates in employee salary planning and administration.
  • Motivates, coaches and trains staff to maximize productivity and promote their professional development.
  • Manages employee performance in a timely and consistent fashion per company policies and practices.
  • Measures performance. Support strategic direction. Cascade GTS strategy and goals within the enterprise. Employee development skills are ongoing and you will be responsible for the ongoing individual development of the people you manage. This includes recommending training, providing effective and timely feedback on programs and individual development towards personal and corporate goals.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Experience in information systems and/ or program management.
  • Experience in managing a team.
  • A software development experience, demonstrating an understanding of the system development life cycle, using Agile development practices and competencies in user story estimation, complex problem dissection, and capability to easily communicate highly complex technical terminology in business.
  • Strong working knowledge of the telecommunications products and services, as well as back office systems and systems of engagement and systems of insight, including GTS operations as well as the various other business units and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of the RTE role.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications architecture, preferably at Verizon Wireless, and ability to assist direct reports in planning solutions for the business within this architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of strategic and tactical program planning and management concepts, methodologies, tools, standards, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Working knowledge of information systems concepts.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Strong conflict resolution, negotiating and facilitating skills.
  • Strong decision-making, problem solving skills, and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage the relationship between GTS and the applicable customer organization.
