Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement and manage scalable, maintainable, and highly available database environments to meet business objectives and service-level agreements (SLA).
  • Design and implement effective database solutions and models to store and retrieve company data.
  • Design and build relational databases.
  • Perform data access analysis design, archive/recovery design, and implementation.
  • Work in a data warehouse environment, which includes data design, database architecture, and metadata repository creation.
  • Collaborate across multiple teams to research, architect, engineer, and configure complex database solutions to specified requirements in support of global business critical systems.
  • Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to new solutions.
  • Monitor the system performance by performing regular tests, troubleshooting and integrating new features.
  • Recommend solutions to improve new and existing database systems.
  • Educate staff members through training and individual support.
  • Review and develop object and data models and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access.
  • Document database designs, solutions, configurations, and teach/mentor other support tiers, team members and vendors including onboarding and knowledge transfer.
  • Coordinate and oversee the assignments, delivery, and quality of other database administrators.
  • Continuously improve system and database performance, automation, operations and processes.
  • Participate in conducting vulnerability testing, penetration analyses and security audits of databases to ensure the availability, confidentiality and integrity of all Verizon Connect database systems.
  • Respond rapidly to system outages, alerts and or any interruption in system services globally on an as needed basis to maintain the highest level of availability possible (SLA / Uptime > 99%).
  • Monitor performance, database usage and access patterns to ensure optimal performance.
  • Assist in the procurement and delivery of supporting hardware and software.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of experience.
  • Six or more years of architecture and hands-on development of Enterprise Data Warehouse environments.
  • Six or more years of general data architecture experience.
  • Knowledge of design and integration principles for complex, heterogeneous databases.
  • A proven track record of leading teams when designing and managing data models.

Even better if you have:

  • Experience leading/mentoring other engineers/administrators; leading design reviews and architecture discussions.
  • Experience creating databases from the ground up.
  • In-depth understanding of data management (e.g. permissions, recovery, security, and monitoring).
  • Proficiency with SQL, Complex SQL Tuning, Stored Procedures, Data Warehousing best practices etc.
  • SSMS, SSIS, and SSAS expertise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid presentation skills and the ability to present to audiences.
  • Business experience with proficient ability to talk to executives with fluency.
  • Willingness to travel.
