What you’ll be doing...

The Tax Manager- Project Management position will be a crucial asset to represent the Tax department in driving alignment across the stakeholders in the delivery of Finance strategic transformational initiatives to drive cost savings, standardization and process optimization. This position will be responsible for providing guidance and direction to project and program managers across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Additionally, this role requires management level interaction across planning, business case development, strategic prioritization, business process analysis and re-engineering and 3rd party vendor management. This leadership position will encompass the full Tax space domestic and international: Income, Transaction, Property and Regulatory.


  • Manage cross functional team stakeholders and IT technical leads to drive alignment, strategy and project execution.
  • Position is responsible for engaging leaders across our business and IT to identify complex and significant business issues, process improvement opportunities, and working with key stakeholders to implement changes.
  • Create and maintain communications and provide guidance to individual contributors on partnership deck content and weekly status verbiage.
  • Ensure alignment across stakeholders and drive overall partner engagement with Tax. Drive process optimization, including creating formal processes to effective manage projects and portfolios. Mentor and coach team members on insights and their impact to business strategy and drive project solutions, prioritization, business value, metrics and cost savings
  • This position will need to provide resolutions to a diverse range of problems, including when a project is off-track and when there is mis-alignment across stakeholders.
  • The role requires ability to handle diverse aspects of Tax, from guiding individuals on understanding and analyzing business processes, to evaluating the systems approach, determining the critical path and bottlenecks, and determining alternative approaches to address issues.
  • Role will collaborate with business partners to gain in-depth understanding of desired business outcomes and consequently, and drive strategy and solutions based on business needs and insights gathered. This may often result in a difference of opinion on the original requirement and the long term goal, this role would require being able to rally teams and individuals around conflicts.
  • Position will be required to manage various projects through implementation and exercise considerable judgment in developing methods, techniques & evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Work is accomplished without considerable direction.
  • Role will require understanding key priorities and projects to be placed into weekly, monthly, and quarterly status updates, provide information for creation of partnership decks with senior management, and operational reviews to communications point of contacts. Individual may need to challenge those providing updates to ensure the proper positioning.
  • This position requires strong analytical skills to outline the plan and strategies to deliver projects on time. Critical thinking is key in this role, including the ability assimilate information, identify issues and assess solutions. Additionally, the candidate must have a track-record of mastering complex subject matter quickly and the ability to convey concepts in a clear, concise and logical manner.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree.
  • Twelve or more years of experience in finance, information systems, Transformation implementations and project management. Ability to work with all levels of management and demonstrate independent thinking.
  • Strong communications skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to communicate across multiple audiences, including executive level presentations.
  • Working knowledge of the software development life cycle.
  • Ability to be a strong facilitator and lead cross-functional team meetings to confirm requirements, resolve issues and report progress during the various lifecycle phases.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple programs
  • Strong track record of achieving results in distributed/virtual teams
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to analyze the situations and develop alternative approaches to addressing issues; recommend solutions and lead the implementation of management decisions.
  • Strong team player with solid interpersonal skills and proven ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Experience in managing/working with 3rd party vendor relationships and dependencies.
  • Strong business knowledge of Verizon Information Technology SDLC processes and IT relationships.
  • Experience in leading in the delivery of strategic Verizon finance transformation initiatives across business processes such as Bill to Cash (B2C), finance applications and web sites, etc.
