The Verizon Wireless Network Systems Engineering (NSE) team is chartered with helping the Product Development organization design systems that can be successfully integrated into the VZW Network. NSE engineering leads will also help ensure that new products can be supported by our Operations teams (Deliver on Verizon customer expectations: high availability and performance). This individual contributor will be empowered to make design decisions based on their broad experience and knowledge of the VZW Network and supported services.

  • Attend/Support regular design sessions with Product Development (all product verticals/domains that impact the wireless infrastructure).
  • Provide guidance to the Product Development team on VZW Network system design best practices (Based on number of customers/forecast, system response times, ability to support the new functionality, service availability expectations as well as security considerations (Network & customer data)
  • VZW Network components include: Backbone/transport (OTNGN), 4G LTE Standards (EPC), IMS Core, Radio Access Network (RAN), AAA/HSS ( profile Mgmt/Auth), DNS, Charging, Policy Enforcement, FoTA, SIM OTA, Roaming, Voice Networks (PSTN and VoLTE), IT Provisioning Interfaces (MTAS/Vision, SIM Process), MPN/PIP, Cloud, Virtual environment.
  • Provide guidance on co-location of equipment in our NEC's versus hosting in a Cloud or Application Service Provider (ASP) hosted solution
  • Review and provide input on High Level Design (HLD) and Detail Design (DD) submission documents before they are submitted to VZW for review/consideration (be part of the CTO design team to help ensure success through the VZW Network ePDP process)



  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Networking, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of network experience in specifying, designing, implementing, troubleshooting, supporting, and documenting large, highly complex, mission critical on-line transactional processing systems (Engineering and Operations)
  • Expert knowledge of our existing VZW infrastructure (3G/4G). Including: RAN, EPC, IMS, Diameter, AAA/HSS (Auth), backbone/transport (OTNGN), MPN/PIP, service charging, policy enforcement, APN's and voice infrastructures (PSTN and VoLTE).
  • This individual should be a veteran of the ePDP process.
  • Expert knowledge of data center topology and alarming & surveillance systems (NOC/NRB)
  • Detailed knowledge of L2 and L3 networking protocols, their application, and troubleshooting. Extensive experience in the analysis and troubleshooting or these protocols (Including: DNS, ACL, FW)
  • Detailed knowledge of radius, diameter, and SIP protocols and their applications. Extensive experience in the analysis and troubleshooting these protocols.
  • Detailed knowledge of throughput, capacity, system scaling & performance metrics (Planned/forecast versus Actual)
  • Working knowledge of HP, Oracle, Solaris and Linux (HW, DB Systems & performance)
  • Working knowledge of mobile devices, mobile operating systems, and wireless applications. A successful candidate should understand the OS behavior/features and how they impact applications as well as Network interaction
  • Excellent oral and written skills in order to support collaboration (consensus) across the VZ enterprise and meet design success objectives.
