What you’ll be doing...

This position reports to the Director in the International Accounting/Finance group, providing support and progressing projects that relate and/or intersect with the International Accounting/Finance responsibilities, continuous improvement initiatives and strategic programs. These often have multi-functional (especially across Finance but also with other functions such as HR, Legal, Sourcing), geographic complexity and strategic impact on Verizon's business.

This position supports the Project and Program management governance and input over projects and initiatives of International Accounting/Finance, including:

  • Delivering project/program management support to business and asset divestitures. This can expand to other functions e.g. cross functional project leadership.
  • Acquisition & Integration activities that include system and organizational aspects e.g. transition of responsibilities into existing systems, organizations and processes.
  • Strategic and transformational projects including service delivery models and responsibility alignment.
  • Project Governance - Managing highly complex programs/projects to ensure that implementation and prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives: planning and developing methods and procedures for implementing programs/projects, directing and coordinating program activities, and influencing personnel responsible for specific functions or phases of programs/projects.
  • Strategic planning & creative solutions- Collaborating with key strategic stakeholders in understanding the current state and potential strategic options; evaluating the options to shape the implementation plan to coordinate across multiple functions. Working with cross-functional teams to build a plan where no existing framework exists. This position does not track against an existing standard, but will create a new plan to meet the need of each deliverable.
  • Proactive risk & issue management - Understanding and articulating how the components of a complex project come together to meet a deliverable, identifying risks and issues as well as related mitigation strategies, and driving others to agreement and action against an integrated plan.
  • Strategic Communications - Influencing stakeholders at various levels to alter methods and deliverables when needed to meet project charter, as well as articulating comprehensive explanations to senior leadership when projects cannot meet desired outcomes and/or existing paths. Creating meaningful communication materials that present strategic directions and recommendations, up to and including SVP level.
  • Delivering seamless cross functional, geographic, stakeholder management including third party and executive level, finding solutions to time critical escalations and business problems. Developing and maintaining strong relationships, communicating and acting effectively across Stakeholders (Accounting, Finance & Verizon, as well as external parties), that facilitates and enhances positive outcomes and collaboration.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or six or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Managed large complex projects involving multiple work streams and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of project management best practices and tools.
  • Analytical, interpretive, written, and oral communication skills that enable clear comprehension of project status, key issues and actions.
  • Analytical skills to support and effectively communicate strategic directions and programs, and strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to interface with Accounting, Finance and other functions, as well as various levels (including executive) of management both internally and external to Verizon.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
  • Experience with minimal direction/supervision and excels with high degree of autonomy. Responsibility experience such that can substitute for Director, International Accounting/Finance.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
  • CPA certification (or are in the process of getting certified).
  • Certification in PMP and/or MSP.
  • International Business, Finance experience with some Accounting exposure and understanding.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Knowledge of Verizon, technology or telecommunications industry.
