This RF Engineer position is responsible for in-building and special coverage solutions for the regional Cellular; PCS, 700 and AWS network including: determining key network driven locations to support and enhance the macrocell network; budgetary estimates for finance groups; performing coverage surveys and evaluating propagation characteristics using RF signal analysis equipment and modeling tools; coordinating sub-contractor work and turn-key solution provider efforts; developing/approving system proposals for customers; tracking and expediting required management approvals; tracking and forecasting system costs; requesting project funding; developing system equipment requirements; proposing system solutions from available VzW in-building system options including repeater and base station fed DAS solutions; evaluating equipment vendor options; monitoring and presenting project status at regular intervals; working with internal and headquarters real estate and legal personnel to put approved lease agreements in place; completing all associated regulatory requirements; coordinating with construction teams and operations personnel; system acceptance testing and final documentation packages; maintaining on-air database including OA&M alarming interface/database; temporary solutions for high-profile events; designing with current technology and configuration variations for repeater systems, neutral host systems, dedicated BTS equipment, and Distributed Antenna Systems using RF, fiber, and LAN CATV distribution methods.

The job requires comprehensive knowledge of RF Engineering and consulting for completion of complex and advanced level assignments. Principal RF Engineer is responsible for independent problem solutions including link budget analysis, system dimensioning for coverage and capacity, initial system design and dimensioning, site identification and evaluation and interference analysis. The engineer should be able to undertake network performance improvement tasks. The individual will typically oversee and guide the work of RF Engineers. Undertake network performance improvement (KPI’s) and optimization tasks.


BS in Engineering (Electrical preferred) or equivalent work experience required MS in Engineering or technical field a plus

• Knowledge of In-Building Repeater and DAS systems

• Familiarity with radio equipment and vendors and manufacturers of equipment for repeater systems, neutral host systems, dedicated BTS equipment, and Distributed Antenna Systems using RF, fiber, and LAN CATV distribution methods

• Understanding of the relationship between the macrocell network and the in-building solutions

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry
• Extensive experience in RF Design including: CDMA; EVDO; LTE

• Experience with RF Design and Performance data collection and post-processing tools

• Experience with RF signal analysis tools including: vector network analyzer; spectrum analyzer; PIM analyzer; wireless communication test sets

• Experience developing, communicating and implementing business process improvements.
• Experience assessing and managing 3rd party vendor relationships and/or resources

• Experience managing project budgets ensuring on time/budget milestones are met.

• Experience with large venue DAS systems both from an engineering and operational perspective.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Telephony Switching; Cellular Architecture; and RF Theory

• Strong understanding of data network architectures and protocols

• Excellent analytic and troubleshooting skills

• Proficient with RF design tools to include: In-building and Rooftop Propagation Modeling Software; iBwave; MapInfo; DeLorme
