What you’ll be doing...

The Cary Network Management Center is seeking a motivated and driven manager to support Verizon’s transport network and technologies. As the Network Operations Manager of our Tier 2 team, you will manage twenty or more engineers and supervisors in our Network Management Center. This team operates 24/7 and requires you to be on call. You will be responsible for assuring day to day network performance and reliability, for our global transport network. Our teams are accountable for the timely identification and restoration of service impacting events and ensuring the security, performance, and reliability of Verizon's global transport backbone.

  • Training and developing of the workforce as well as organizing and scheduling the resources necessary to support a broad range of transport network elements.
  • Directing and supervising transport engineers and includes responsibilities associated with the proper monitoring, maintenance and ongoing operations of all Verizon transport backbone networks.
  • Focusing on the customer experience by triaging and resolving impacting outages.
  • Leveraging and developing automation, to address transport outages and solidify redundancy throughout.
  • Interacting with all surrounding groups to ensure the resolution of network events, maintenance is on track for resolution, and information is shared throughout the organizations.
  • Developing and owning monthly goals, yearly targets, and assigned SLA’s.
  • Leading engineers through change as our network and skill sets transform.
  • Overseeing our environmental monitoring responsibilities. Ensure teams are responding and pushing power outages, high temps, and building issues.

Where you’ll be working…

This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the director.

What we’re looking for...

As a strong and effective people leader, you will lead transport engineers through change as our network and skill sets transform. As an excellent teammate, you will effectively partner with other network teams to continue to ensure outstanding results, as well as removing roadblocks to make the teams more productive. Strong computer skills, excel and data analysis are foundations to identifying areas for focus and improvement.

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.
  • Willingness to work rotating on call flexible schedule (shifts) including nights and weekends based on the needs of the business.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • vendor certifications.
  • Experience in Field operations.
  • Experience in call center or maintenance center.
  • Knowledge of network equipment and systems.
  • Experience in Project management/business analysis.
  • Experience in Scripting/automation/programming.
  • Experience in the use of circuit and test equipment and network monitoring applications.
  • Experience in Cisco, Fujitsu, Samsung, ALU /Nokia, Ciena transport equipment.
  • Experience in Leadership, managerial skills, and administrative skills.
