What you’ll be doing...

Verizon Cloud Platform (VCP) is the directional virtualization infrastructure used to support virtualized network functions including 4G/5G wireless applications. We are looking for a dynamic and collaborative individual who will aid in scaling both the automations and the infrastructures that power the deployments, upgrades, and configurations of virtualized network functions in VCP far edge.

The position will work with internal teams and Verizon suppliers to ensure the VCP far edge infrastructure meets the requirements of the business and can be reproduced and managed operationally. The role will involve strategy development in order to ensure all projects are aligned with business objectives. Responsibilities include the following.

  • Building and managing micro-services for Verizon’s Cloud Platform projects.
  • Leading design and code reviews to deliver good application/tool without compromising delivery timelines and performance of the current production systems.
  • Working with internal Verizon Cloud Platform teams and outside teams HQ Planning, Maintenance Engineering, and VCP Edge Engineering to collaboratively deliver the projects, end-to-end.
  • Maintaining infrastructure plans, designs, and documentation.
  • Performing troubleshooting activities, emphasizing the problem-solving activity to be cooperative and professional.
  • Identifying and driving KPIs and dashboard reporting for working applications teams, executive and senior executive use on an ongoing basis.
  • Identifying opportunities to build automated engineering infrastructure, NoSQL database APIs, REST APIs, software security infrastructure, etc.
  • Measuring and monitoring the performance of the device, design, and implement improvements.
  • Driving the automation of simulation and test algorithms to detect errors present in systems.
  • Managing the life-cycle phases. The phases are concept, inception, construction/developing, deploy/release, and production.
  • Building tools to collect data for other organizations (HQ Planning,Transformation Office, Network Assurance ) to develop performance and reporting any cost-savings.
  • Identifying opportunities to automate manual work and subsequently leading the delivery effort for the identified automation need.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in Telecommunications, Networking, IT systems & Virtualization/Cloud technologies.
  • Programming/scripting Experience. (Ansible, Python, Go).
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% of the time.

Even better if you have one of more of the following:

  • A master’s degree.
  • Experience with continuous integration, continuous deployment while leveraging DevOps best practices and tools (Jenkins, Ansible, and git (Bitbucket/Gitlab)).
  • Experience with open-source cloud and service automation/orchestration tools (e.g., Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Heat).
  • Experience with multiple/hybrid cloud environments, including automated build scripting.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in developing RESTful API's, experience with containerization and virtualization.
  • Experience with DevOps tools and frameworks (e.g., Salt, Git, Terraform, Jenkins, Helm charts, Docker, etc.).
  • Experience in Kubernetes solution architecture.
  • Experience in system architecture and design.
  • Knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancing, and firewalls.
  • Monitoring and log management skills (e.g., Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Grafana, Kafka, Icinga).
